It wasn't until a knock at the door occurred that Ric and Josh began to suspect something was amiss with the spell that had been cast on Sean and Alex. Alex quick ran into a room and slipped on a pair of jeans and tossing a pair each to Ric and Josh, telling them to get dressed as well. It was when a rather pretty girl walked into the house, looking somewhat irritated as Alex came in right behind her. She looked to be about their current age, wearing a loose baggy sweatshirt which was obviously hiding a bit of a belly on her with short ripped jean shorts over her obviously bottled tan to match her bleached blond hair and gray eyes.
"You could have at least warned me you were coming today," complained Alex.
"I sent you twelve text messages, not my fault if you haven't invested enough in good wifi to receive them out here," said the girl, holding up her phone screen to Alex's face to prove her point.
"Still, you should have called when I didn't answer," said Alex, crossing his arms, which caused the girl's glance to linger momentarily at his chest and arms, before diverting her eyes elsewhere.
"Where's Sean, Alex?"
"Up in his crib, sleeping, and he won't be disturbed."
"Crib?" asked Josh.
At Josh's confusion, the girl took note and then a grin spread across her face as she made her way for the stairs. Alex did not move to stop her, which she seemed ready and waiting to counteract, but it never came, so she got to the steps and then rush up them.
"Alex, what's going on here?" asked Ric as he noticed Alex
"Heather thinks she can just walk in here whenever she wants and take Sean--that's not what the judge said."
"Judge?"
"The custody case... remember, the judge said I could raise and keep Sean, provided I allow Heather a visit--well, she's getting her visit--for the month."
"Wait, you think Sean is your son?" asked Josh.
"Born just a few weeks ago--come on, you guys were with me at the hospital!"
Fuzzy memories of a hospital waiting room while Alex paced frantically popped into Ric and Josh's minds, though the memory felt unreal the moment they recalled it.
"Right... sorry, just been out in the sun too much--made things a little fuzzy," apologized Ric before Josh could contradict anything.
"Maybe you should be the one taking the nap," joshed Alex with a friendly shove before heading upstairs after Heather.
The moment Alex was out of earshot, Josh turned to Ric and said, "I think this spell is different."
"You think?!" Ric rolled his eyes and took a seat on the sofa.
Josh grabbed the book and began flipping through the pages.
"Josh, the spell will correct itself once it's run its course."
"Yeah, and we were only supposed to be going through puberty for fifteen minutes. It's been 20 minutes."
Ric looked over at the clock on the wall to see that Josh did have a point.
"Perhaps they didn't mean literally fifteen minutes when this was written--hell were fifteen minutes even the same thing as our fifteen minutes?"
"Right off the bat, the first page says not to cast more than one spell at a time, as there can be unintended consequences," declared Josh as he shoved the front of the book in Ric's face.
