As I woke up the next morning, I felt quite embarrassed by how childish I had acted. Mom seemed to notice it since she immediately reassured me. "Don't worry, all legacy magical-girls act like little kids the first time they change willingly. You know what a legacy magical-girl is, right?"
"Yes. When a battle magical-girl feel like she is faced with certain death, she can transmit her core to any girl they trust, as long as said girl doesn't already have a magical-core of their own. Such a magical-girl with powers inherited from another is called ‘legacy’. Some powers survived countless generations that way."
Mom nodded. "I see you remember you lessons in magical-girl history, Yuki. Our current situation is quite unique you know. Not only because you're the first boy to become a magical-girl, but because your the first legacy one who's predecessor still have her powers, or rather recuperated them. Would be great if it help giving their powers back to at least some that needed to transmit their powers to someone else…"
After a few moments of silence, thinking she didn't have anything to add rather than lost in her thoughts, I asked "Mom, were does our name, Yuki, come from? We don't really look Asian, let alone Japanese."
"It was a friend who named me that just after witnessing my first transformation. Her parents were from Japan, and it was because my ice powers made her think of Yuki-Onas. Not that she ever believed me to be evil. I would have more to say, but I would prefer to do so somewhere else."
