Because they didn’t want to wait for Felipe, the group decided to hop the fence and head through the restricted area.
“If we’re quick, we can avoid getting seen or questioned.” Daniel whispered to the others.
“Dude, are we Mission Impossible-ing this shit right now?” Andrew piped up, a little two excited about the situation.
“Not if we get caught you dumbass!” Sandra scoffed as quietly as she could.
So they snuck around the few guards and stayed out of the line of sight of a few cameras until they reached a spot of forest that seemed unguarded. Getting themselves together, they took a minute to get their bearings so that they could reach the mountain.
“Well, that was fun, but I’d rather not go to jail or pay a fine the next time I agree to do a hike with you two.” Sandra chimed in again, walking in what she assumed to be the correct way.
“Calm down, and stop going so far ahead. You don’t know where you’re going.” Daniel said, trying to grab her.
“Hey guys, what’s that?” Andrew asked, getting all of their attention.
They had reached a clearing in the forest that looked like some sort of Aztec burial ground or open-aired temple. The three of them examined the area; the markings on the ground in a circular pattern, the statues with animal heads, the way the air felt and smelled around them. They could tell something was off about this place, but the reactions were definitely different.
“This is definitely not what I expected to run into, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a little look around.” -Andrew
“I don’t think we’re supposed to be here, let’s leave before we cause any unnecessary trouble.” -Daniel
“Oooh, is this an Aztec ritual site. Perfect! Just the thing I needed to write my history thesis on.” -Sandra
At this, the group had a moment of tension and confusion. Everyone wanted something different, and the disagreement evolved to a heated debate. Words were being traded until they noticed the ground light up and shake beneath them. A deep voice bellowed to them from inside their minds.
“It seems human still fight amongst each other after all these years. Has the bloodshed of times past not proven to be enough of an example for you violent, angry creatures? No longer! I shall solve this problem with my own power. Witness me you frail, insignificant plague of the earth!”
