Akira looked the envelope up and down. It looked normal enough… Seemed like it was official school stationary. He opened it and found a letter that looked like it was written in crayon by a five year old.
Dear Akira Sato,
As headmistress of Hope Valley Private Academy, I am pleased to accept you as a new student! This is an illustrious school where only the best of the best get accepted. However, each year we also select one average student to attend via lottery. This year that lucky student is you! From now on your Ultimate Classification is “Lucky Student”!
Be sure to attend Orientation in the Gymnasium at 8 AM! Please don’t be late to your first day!

“So… I guess I am a student here?” Akira said aloud, “Hope Valley though… even as a Lucky Student… this is a school for college kids who’re the best at their respective fields! The Ultimate representation of a skill, talent, or whatever! No matter if you’re a wealthy progeny, a biker gang leader, or an athlete! I don’t belong at a place like this!”
“You did say you’re this year’s Lucky Student, right dear?” Miss Howl asked, “You have every right to belong as everyone else.”
“If you say so,” Akira sighed, glancing around the room, “Hey, uh… are the windows supposed to be bolted with metal plates here?”
“Not usually, no,” Miss Howl noticed, “Pity. I did love a bit of sunshine warming my board.”
“And… what about the security camera up there?” Akira pointed out. It was a security camera animal girl who resembled a watchdog. She had her lenses trained right at Akira.
“Don’t mind me,” the camera said, “I’m camera 1-B! My sisters and I monitor most of every room in the building to make sure there ain’t any intruders… or wisenheimers who think it’s a good idea to sleep in class!”
“O… kay?” Akira edged a bit from the camera as he continued looking around the room. He saw a TV monitor that had a screensaver with the school’s logo bouncing around it. It had bunny ears that would twitch occasionally. “And the TV?”
“As long as I’ve worked here, we’ve used it for school-wide announcements,” Miss Howl explained.
“That makes sense,” Akira nodded. Glancing around one more time, he found a coin with a bunny printed on it (which he surreptitiously pocketed) and an owl girl wall clock… that read 7:55.
“AH! Orientation is in five minutes!” Akita yelped, “Which way to the gym?”
“Of course!” Miss Howl smiled as she metamorphed into a map, “From here you take a right down the hall into the lobby, then take a left, and then another right.”
“Thank you,” Akira bowed politely, as he rushed out the door.
