You wake up the next morning. You don't open your eyes yet. You know, you just know, that you'll see nothing but the inside of a foxes den - and that you'll never see your family or friend ever again, never have seen them...and you can't bear it. You can't bear the loss, the loneliness, it's crushing beyond anything you've ever felt. So you keep your eyes closed, and curl tighter - you want to die. You want-
"[Your name!] Breakfast! Come on, get up!" your mother calls loudly. Your ears prick up and your eyes snap open in shock -
- to reveal your bedroom. Your same bedroom! Sure, it's a dog bed and you've got no clothes but all your other stuff is here!
"[Your name!] Don't make me come in there, foxboy, you'll be late for school!"
You spring up, rushing out to the kitchen, seeing your mom and launching into a hug.
"MOM!"
"Oof! Hey, easy, honey, what's got into you this morning?"
She looks down and sees you crying, pressing your face into her dress, and she begins returning your hug.
"Oh, honey, what's wrong?"
"I-I had a bad dream that I was just a wild fox and you and dad and Max and everyone f-f-forgot all about me-sob-eee!"
Your mother hugs you tight and brushes your fur.
"Oh, oh honey! You poor thing! No, honey, we would never forget you! You're my son, my wonderful little anthrofox son, and nothing can take you away from me without a fight, you hear?"
You nod, and after comforting you some more your mom gives you breakfast. It IS mostly meat and looks a bit like high-end dog food, but you suppose that's what your digestion needs. When your dad comes in to join you you grab him into a hug too. He returns it but raises a brow at your mother, who mouthed 'Nightmare, bad one.' over your head. Your dad just nods and strokes your fur until you break the hug.
When you get to school, Max is waiting. You grab him and hug him too - he's a little less sanguine than your parents.
"H-hey! Get off of me, man, people will stare!"
You release him, grinning.
"Sorry. I just...I'm super glad to see you today."
"Uh, ok, weirdo. Anyway, you wanna come over to my place to play video games after school?"
"Absolutely!"
You fall in to talking like the old friends you are, heading to class.
When homeroom begins, Ms Web clears her throat.
"Alright, class, we have a new student today. Everyone please make Reyna welcome."
