Transform or Dare?

Ashley's choice

added by codify 18 years ago A

The white werewolf stalked low in the bushes, looking into the window of the small ranch home on the outskirts of the suburbs. Her golden eyes found whom she sought: there, in a modest room, at a small desk, sat Joshua Lockhart, bent wearily over a book on lupine behavior. The white wolf's tail wagged; soon, he wouldn't need a book to tell him about that. He would know everything firsthand.

Joshua was two years older than Ashley. She remembered how much she had looked up to the shy, kind boy during the two years they had been in high school together: like her, he always seemed to be alone in a crowd. Although he had a very few close friends, most of his companions were books, some of them fantasy, of the same kind that Ashley loved to read: tales of faraway worlds, of being somewhere else, something else. They had never been close friends... Ashley had never summoned up the courage to talk to him outside of literature class and book club meetings. She never thought that she was desirable enough to have a chance with him. Her missed chances turned to regret when he graduated and left town, having been accepted to a good university, where he became a student of biology. Now, he was home on vacation and had been making extra money tutoring high school students. Ashley was one of those students.

Not that Ashley needed the help in her AP Biology course... her grades were excellent. She couldn't admit, even to herself, that the only reason she met with him for an hour a week was because she enjoyed spending time with him, even if the two of them didn't talk about anything but cell structure and ecology. But now, her mind was free of human neuroses, and she was able to admit it to herself: Ashley loved Joshua. His heart was strong: Joshua had always been kind to her, smiling that gentle smile, never speaking a hateful word to anyone, forming strong friendships, if few, and working hard to support his poor family and pay his own way through college. His mind was strong: beyond his great intelligence, his imagination led him to distant worlds, and Ashley knew that he was secretly writing his own fantasy novel; she had spied a few chapters in his binder while he was tutoring her. His body... well, that wasn't so strong, but Ashley could help him with that. He deserved the gift that she was to offer, and it would make him complete. She would need to speak in human language to him, however, at least at first, and so she relucatantly shed her werewolf form to stand naked at the front door. She felt a tingling pass through her body, and especially through her private area, as she anticipated his reaction, and hoped for what would come afterwards, if he accepted. She pressed the doorbell and waited.
