June flew through the forest as only a deer could - her long, agile legs springing her over obstacles like downed trees and rock outcroppings with the greatest of ease. Terror had flooded her cervine system at Ty's roared threat, and her adrenaline propelled her past trees and over gullies, her human mind lost completely to the her new body's flight instinct. Her sensitive ears twitched, easily catching the sound of a large predator crashing through the woods behind her, possibly right on her hooves!
Ty the Enormous Wolfman panted, a lupine grin stretching his lips back from his sharp teeth as the thrill of the chase infused his very being. He bounded through the undergrowth, June's flickering tail drawing him onward like nothing else in his life. He could feel saliva whipping out of his mouth as he darted left, following his prey's sharp turn. She couldn't lose him; he was too quick! In moments he would be upon her, his teeth at her neck, her warm blood filling his mouth!
Darting sideways just as she felt his hot breath on her hindquarters, June gave one final leap for her life, instinctively realizing the futility of her actions. As her hooves touched down on soft, springy earth, she turned quickly to face the threat, an involuntary bleat of pure terror escaping her maw at the sight of the huge predator bearing down on her.
Ten feet away, Ty stopped, his claws digging into the soil at his abrupt halt. Deer-June stood quivering before him, moonlight bathing her slender form through a break in the trees. He could see her quivering, her head swiveling to follow him as he slowly started to pace a circle around her. She was practically frozen with terror.
Between one beat and the next, Ty turned and lunged, barreling into his prey and toppling her to the ground, prompting another bleat of despair. She lay on her side beneath his crushing weight, her elongated neck stretched out and her mouth slightly ajar as her deer form and instincts accepted their fate: they'd given the wolf a good chase, but in the end they'd lost. Was this truly the end? June's human mind tried to surface and fight back at the thought of giving up so easily, but the adrenaline was quickly leeching out of her body as the weight of inevitability pressed her into the earth. She felt the wolf's teeth graze her neck, hovering over her jugular, seconds away from the kill-strike.
