It's a good thing that classes have returned to their usual. If JC got his powers when classes were still held online, he could see it becoming a waste. The pool of people he could use this power on would be just for his family and surrounding neighbors. And living in the edge of suburbia bordering on a wide-open field of nothing meant that they don’t even have that many neighbors.
JC wore his usual clothes, did his usual hair-do, and grabbed his usual stuff. Everything is the same except for the new power now in the confines of his hand. Just a touch and a lifetime of change will ensue.
The school bus hissed and JC walked to where his locker should be. There's a handful of students walking all about, busy because of the upcoming school festival. Also, the midterms just finished and classes won't start until the event has finished. JC could stay home until the festival is over because he has nothing to do. He isn't joined in any particular club nor a volunteer to fix the final ball of outgoing senior students. But with this power in his hands and a whole school to select, he won’t let this chance disappear.
