You read through the pages, the story centers around a group of scientists on a ship in deep space who find an alien specimen from the planet Upsilon Scorpii-d, the seat of an ancient empire that once spanned half the galaxy. Through the book the initially rat-sized creature steals food and builds new cells and eventually incorporates enough mass to envelop crew members and transform them into its minions. The book ends with the protagonist escaping the ship, leaving the now-rejuvenated and intelligent alien with a crew and a state-of-the-art vessel.
Upon closing the book, you decide to take a quick walk to the store to get some snacks, leaving your parents, girlfriend and little brother in the house, the book now vibrating like a phone of the desk. Your dad hears the vibrations and curiously enters your room, puzzled, he approaches the book and opens the page, he doesn't even get a chance to scream before a jelly-like creature springs from the paper and into his mouth, he clutches his throat and falls to his knees, the alien works quickly to incorporate your fathers' cells to it's own mass as he struggles on the floor.
Your mother hears the commotion and walks to the bottom of the stairs. "Honey, you OK up there?"
Your father rises to kneel upright, eyes completely black as the alien has taken over his brain, "Yeah honey, just trying to get this stupid fly." It replies calmly in a perfect impression of your dad's voice. "Oh OK." Your mother returns to the couch as the creature finishes assimilating with your father, retaining his body frame and structure but with no bones or hair and deep-blue, translucent flesh, as if your dad was now a giant gummy man. The creature examines the human form, rubbing it's new muscles and genitals. Eager to reproduce it quietly leaves the room and stalks the strange occupants.
