"I wish I would make it home safely," I said quickly. I hurried away, hearing Arnold crashing around in the back yard. I had to wrap my head around all of what had happened, and what it had awakened inside me.
The walk home seemed to take forever. Every now and again, I would hear a wolf howl, and wondered if it was Karen,Arnold, or someone else that had been bitten.
I still couldn't believe the power of this ring. With a few simple wishes, I'd changed the world, and probably altered the destiny of many people.
With my first wish, I had wished that werewolves were real, and that Lauren Wu, the anchorwoman from earlier was one of them.
With my second, I wished that they'd make themselves known.
And with my third, I had wished that my friend Arnold would be bitten by one.
I hadn't specifically wished that Karen Hughes would be a werewolf, nor had a wished that we would have sex. I certainly hadn't wished that Arnold would change, or to see his cock.
My wishes had unexpected consequences, to be sure, and I couldn't help but wonder where they would lead. I felt aroused, excited, and frightened all at the same time. How many other werewolves were out there right now, in my town, in the country, in the world? How many more would there be by dawn? How many would die tonight? I could undo it all with a wish, I knew. But I had no intention of doing that, at least not yet.
I arrived at home safely, just as I wished. Something told me to turn on the news. Our local station was still experiencing "technical difficulties", so I turned on CNN. They were just coming back from commercial, and a splash graphic caught my eye. It reminded me of the "War on Terror" graphic they used in the earliest days of the war in Iraq. It simply said, "Supernatural Menace".
The anchor, a middle-aged man cautioned us that the images we would view were graphic in nature. All around the world, it was happening, judging by the clips they showed.
First, it was a clip of Lauren Wu, then a scene of a wedding, with the priest changing and attacking. In London, a member of parliament attacked during a fundraiser. In Japan, a member of the royal family. In Germany, a soccer player. In some of the scenes, police were futilely firing shots at already-organized packs of werewolves, whereas in others, a single werewolf raged against a panicked mass.
The official statement from the US Government and CDC was not to panic, the anchorman told us, it would all be over soon, and a rational explanation given. I couldn't help but laugh. The only rational explanation was that I had started all this chaos.
I made another wish: To make it through the night safely, and then I went to sleep, dreaming of wolves.
