Caleb would certainly say he had fun at the party. The teenage hunter had been to his fair share of high school parties and would say that this one would be in his top 3. Now though his father needed help in taking out a small nest of vampires. "How much further dad?"
"Maybe five minutes," Jacob stated as they now turned onto a side street. "I was able to track down one of Miro's generals. Looks like he's been operating out of an abandoned building." Caleb nodded, rechecked his ammunition as his father now studied him carefully. "So how was the party? Ya'll didnt go to crazy did ya?"
"It was quiet dad," Caleb sighed. "Promise. Besides it wasn't anything that you and Uncle Rick didn't do when you were young. He told me all about the moonshine you two used to make."
"Remind me to thank my brother next time he visits," Jacob grumbled. Parking Jacobs pickup, the two hunters now studied the abandoned factory that Merrick, one of Miro's lesser generals used as an operating base. From what Jacob had learned Miro often used Merrick to "recruit" whenever Miro arrived. The vampire may not have been as strong as some of his other generals but he was still an elite. Meaning Jacob would need to tread carefully.
"So what can you tell me about this Merrick guy," Caleb asked.
"Well," Jacob started. "He was a British soldier in World War 1 before Miro got him. Quickly proved himself to be quite good at following Miro's orders. Might not be as strong as some if the other vamps in Miros ranks but he's still an elite. We need to tread carefully."
Caleb nodded, his eyes now scanning the abandoned factory. "How many we dealing with in there?"
"Spark says she saw 30," Jacob answered. :personal guards and the recently turned. Shouldn't be a problem but its Merrick that I worry about."
"Well Elites are always a bit problematic," Caleb stated, rubbing his chin. "Guessing thats why you wanted to hit this place in the daytime."
"You guessed right," Jacob smirked. "Hard enough finding a nest, let alone an Elite. Might as well hit it when we got the sun on our side."
The two hunters now approached quietly, setting up demolition charges on the board up windows. The plan was fairly straightforward. Blow out the windows, enter through the front and keep at it until the neat was eliminated. As the pair now made their way to the front entrance they nodded before setting off the explosives.
The vampires were caught by surprise Woken from their nap the hunters were able to easily dispatch close to a dozen before they could muster a defense. Once they did though, Jacob and Caleb ducked behind some crates as they vampires began to return fire.
"So," Jacob asked as he now began to reload. "Hkw are you and Gloria doing?"
"Is this really the right time for that," Caleb asked, the teen poking out from behind cover to shoot a vampire that was firing at their position.
"Yul its the perfect time," Jacob replied, the older hunter firing at two vampires who were trying attack from above. "I'm not blind boy I see how much you like that girl. You guys look like your getting serious."
Caleb flushed, the teen fidgeting slightly as the hunters now moved further into the factory. "Cmon pop thats ridiculous."
Jacob raised an eyebrow, noting his son had actually missed his intended target. "All im saying boy is maybe you should slow things down. You're still young."
Caleb frowned, firing on a trio of vampires, his shots ringing true as all three burst into flame. "Thats kinda ironic since you and mom started going steady when she was what? 14?"
"14 and a half," Jacob grumbled, the older hunter unsheathing a machete, which he promptly used to behead a vampire. "But thats beside the point son. You've only know this girl a few monthes."
"Its not like I'm getting married tomorrow pop," Caleb countered, the teen throwing a stake through the heart of a fleeing vampire.
"No but you do love the girl."
Caleb paused, taking his fathers words in. Maybe he was falling in love with Gloria. "Okay maybe a little," he replied.
"This isn't an easy life son," Jacob said quietly, ducking behind a series of boxes as another vampire unloaded his shotgun at the hunters. "If you two are gonna be serious she needs to understand that."
"Shes a wizard dad," Caleb countered, the teen taking out the shotgun wielding vampire. "And she's risked her life dozens of times. Not to mention saving the world on more than one occasion."
Jacob nodded, the older hunter sneaking into a side room. Caleb now watched as his father dispatched a group of four vampires with his machete and six shooter before ducking behind cover once more. "Huh good point."
"Can we finish the relationship talk later," Spark called. "I'm trying to not get a lead enema here!"
Caleb and Jacob nodded, peaking around cover. It appeared Merrick was trying to regroup. Six vampires now surrounded the general, all armed with machine guns. It appeared that these seven were all that were left. Jacob now relayed his plan to Caleb useing sign language.
Caleb nodded, the teen sprinting tj the other side of the factory. Caleb was to be the bait in this scenario, drawing the fire of the remaining vampires so that his father could move in for the kill. Still, Caleb didn't want to be upstaged by his father, the teen returning fire and killing two of his attackers.
Jacob could only smirk at his sons antics. He remembered doing something similar with his own father when he was that age. "Must be a son thing," he thought. "Your grandpa is probably laughing his ass off right now son."
With the vampires distracted, Jacob now made his move. Quickly he now approached the remaining four vampires, useing his blade and six shooter to take out Merrick guards. The elite vampire now hissed, lunging at Jacob who now began tibwrestle with him.
Calebs eyes went wide in fright, his father now fighting hand to hand with an elite vampire. Before the teen could make a move though, Jacob ducked out of the vampires way before leveling a shotgun at the vampires knee and blowing it clean off.
Merrick howled in pain, collapsing into a heap as the two hunters now stood over him. "Start talking Merrick," Jacob said quietly, his pistol aimed directly at Merrick heart.
"I will tell you nothing," he hissed . "Imba dea man already!"
"True," Jacob conceded. "But how you die is up to you. I can finish ya quick OR I can take my time. How that goes is completely up to you." Merrick glared at the two hunters, his mouth closed in defiance.
"Okay," Jacob sighed. Without another word the elder hunter now pointed his shotgun at Merrick arm, pulling the trigger.
Merrick howled, gazing the damage Jacob had done. The vampires arm was now amputated at the elbow, the vampire in shock at the damage he had sustained.
"You may defeat me Moreland but you'll never defeat the Five!"
"The Five," Jacob exclaimed.
Merrick nodded, a sinister grin spreading across his face. "Lord Miro is taking no chances," he hissed. "The Five will ensure my masters victory!"
"Thanks for the info," Jacob stated, pulling the trigger on his shotgun and mercifully ending the vampires existence. Jacob now sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Everything okay dad," Caleb asked. "Who are the Five?"
"Miros elite warriors," Jacob said quietly. "Kind of the Green Berets of Vampires. I only know about two of them. Needless to say they make Merrick here look as harmless as a kitten."
Caleb now listened as his father told him the story of the Five. The Five were elites, Jacob knowing the identities of two of them. The other three were masters of stealth and espionage, gathering info for Miro. The last two though were the ones Jacob worried about.
Ken was an American sailor who had traveled to Japan at the conclusion of the American Civil War. The solider had made an impression on the surviving samauri at the time, learning their ways and becoming a swordsman who had no rival. The only way he was defeated was when enemies had snuck into his home, blinding the swordsman. Even then though he became dangerous, Miro turning the gaijin samauri. Now his strength, his senses, and his skill made the blindswordsman one of the most feared fighters in the entire world.
"Ken has killed at least three hunters since he was turned," Jacob stated. "If he's here than we have problems."
"And what about the other one," Caleb asked.
"Ann," Jacob shuddered. "A vampire child and Miros personal assassin/bodyguard. The girl was a psychopath before Miro turned her. Rumor has it she slaughtered her entire village, when Miri found her. If she had a taste for blood as a human than that appetite has become insatiable since her turning. Even I worry I might not be able to take her in a fight. If the Five are here than I worry they'll get your wizard friends sooner, rahmther than later."
Caleb nodded gazing at his father as the two now departed the factory. Obviously they would need to be careful with how they dealt with the vampire menace.
