“THAT’S WHAT YOU CALL FIGHTING SHAPE?!” Rhonda shouted into the air, hoping a certain redheaded amazon heard her (she didn't).
After their meeting their group had split up to help in defending the island. Sofia and the hot, british succubus ran into the direction of the big temple sticking out of the jungle foliage. Emma and Millie went to help the real mermaids, for obvious reasons. Rhonda stayed with the island guardian Cassandra, who mentioned getting her ready for battle. It just turned out that her understanding of getting ready was handing the latina a spear and leaving her standing right in the middle of the battlefield.
“YOU’RE A MAGICAL SUPER AMAZON, COULDN’T YOU, LIKE, SHARE YOUR POWERS WITH ME TO ALSO BECOME ONE?!” Rhonda's complaining continued as several attacks miraculously missed her. “IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR A GOOD TRANSFORMATION FOR ONCE! IMAGINE ME WITH GLISTENING MUSCLES, LEGS FOR DAYS AND MERMAID BOOBS TO THE POWER OF AMAZONS! AND I COULD’VE HELPED FIGHTING, TOO! I should've also gone to the mermaids…”
(To Cass’s defense, she only recently got this gig and didn't really know yet herself what she could and couldn't do.)
Rhonda's eyes fell down to the spear she was given. “This is a magical island, so this must be a magical spear, right?” She spoke to nobody in particular.
Gripping the weapon even tighter she closed her eyes and focused. “Ohmmmm…” Then Rhonda opened them again and thrust the spear forward with vigor. “Transform!”
Nothing happened.
“Henshin!”
Nothing happened.
“By the power of Greenskull!”
Nothing happened.
“Maybe it comes without transformation and just has to be used?” Getting into perfect spearthrow position Rhonda let it fly forward with all her powers. The spear managed a handful of feet before falling straight down and disappearing beneath the ocean waves.
Rhonda slumped to the ground. “Do they really expect me to fight a half-human, half-squid, half-battleship monster with only my wits? I know I’ve been roped into a bunch of crazy things already, but that's pushing it!”
Her moment of despair passed and Rhonda righted herself again. “No, I have to do at least something, even if I just delay it a little for Sofia to cast the counter spell. Because a world of lesbian mermaids is bad… for some reason.” She determinedly looked around. “I just need another weapon… Aha!”
Rhonda ran up to the spear sticking straight up half-buried in the sand. She tried to pull it out, only for the spear to barely budge. “Is it stuck in a rock or something?” Rattling, shaking, pulling in every direction, the spear still barely moved an inch.
Rhonda spit in her hands, sharpened her gaze and put all her strength into one final attempt to get the weapon out. And she succeeded. With a big squelch the spear came out of the ground, the head still dripping.
“Wait… that didn't sound like ground.” She looked at the tip of the spear. Or more specifically the fluid sticking to it. “And that looks like– Oh crap!” The ground began shaking as a giant tentacle rose out of the sand below Rhonda. Any escape attempts were stopped before they began as the tentacle coiled around the latina and carried her up to the monster’s, Joana’s, face.
There she was now. Before her, the head of a giant sea monster, below her, said sea monster’s Mariana Trench. And as Joana’s gaze focused solely on her, completely ignoring the monster girls and warriors attacking her, Rhonda found herself wondering how and why she always ended up in these situations. And whether Joana looked hungry or horny.
She really hoped her wits could get her out of this one.
