The Magic Shop

Rule the World With a Redesigned Family

“No kidding,” you huff, “Not just the neighborhood but also the rest of the world! I could use a quick break. Let’s head into my place, Gwen. Units, follow me and await instructions.”

Gwen and the Units blithely followed you back into your house. Or rather, your family’s house. You still lived with your parents at the time because, let’s face it, money’s tight. You passively had Gwen magically expand the house to accommodate the amount of people inside, as well as making most of the furniture and such more expensive.

“You know Master,” Gwen suggested, “I could just go ahead and make this house into an opulent mansion worthy of your power. Shall I?”

“In a moment, honeybunch,” you assured, “let’s just get something to eat first. You hungry?”

“Now you mention it, perhaps I am a bit peckish,” Gwen supposed, “Okay then. Which way is the kitchen?”

“It’s this way,” you lead, taking Gwen to the kitchen and leaving the units to stand blankly in the sitting room. It was a very average middle class kitchen all things considered, but with you and Gwen around that would change very soon. You noticed another unit standing placidly in front of a cutting board. You realize quickly that this unit used to be your mother.

“Is that my… well… did that unit used to be Mom?” you gasp, “It’s… it’s unreal! I should be shaken up about my mom not existing anymore, but… I look at this thing and I just feel… nothing! I feel the same thing I feel when I look at the other blanks! Basically nothing! Heck, I feel more things about you and you used to be a blank, Gwen!”

“Aww quit it with this, Evan!” you heard that familiar voice in the back of your head, “The reason you don’t feel so shaken up by this revelation is because your Mommy’s still alive in a separate timeline! If you want to see her so bad, you can just turn one of the units into your mom or a portal that can let you dimension-hop or something. Of course, you only have jurisdiction over this universe, so don’t act surprised if your ring stops working while you’re away from your own universe.” The voice vanished quickly after that, and you quickly shook your head and reset your nerves.

“Okay, well at least I know Mom isn’t too far away from me,” you shrug, “So as for this unit in front of me… You there! Resemble my mother!”

“As you wish, Master,” the blank unit complied. Its skin turned the same color as yours as it transformed into a perfect replica of your mother, albeit completely naked. Five and a half feet tall, subtly pear shaped and somewhat pudgy, and a well taken care of complexion for a woman in her mid-40’s. Curly brown hair draped her shoulders, pinned back with a hair band to keep the bangs out of her eyes while she cooked. This was roughly what your mother looked like.

“Oh, your mother looked so cute, Evan,” Said Gwen.

“I’m just glad that this isn’t my real Mom,” you expressed, “otherwise I’d be freaking out over seeing her naked! Uhh, right, nudity doesn’t bother you guys at the moment. Let’s just keep tweaking this unit. Unit, you are now the head chef of my house’s staff. You need a physique to match, so I want you to gain more weight. Make your butt look like you have two yoga balls for cheeks, and make your hips and thighs and stomach blimp up to make it all look a bit natural. Next, become six feet tall, grow elf ears, make your eyes solid green, and give yourself an impeccably good sense of taste. You’ll know almost every recipe under the sun and never feel as though your vast culinary knowledge is underutilized. Don a chef’s hat too, as it will be your uniform. Also, please have a French accent, and have a motherly personality.”

“Why yes of course, Monsieur,” the head chef complied, her weight practically tripling to your specifications, “I presume I require a name, non?”

“How about Salomé?” you suggested, “Please whip something up for me and my bosom companion Gwen. Surprise me!”

“Oui, Monsieur,” Salomé complied, gliding across the kitchen with surprising grace for someone with as much junk in the trunk as she did. You had Gwen upgrade the kitchen to a playground worthy of a professional like this, and suddenly felt the urge to find the rest of the units that used to be your family. With a quick beckon you lead Gwen upstairs to the bedrooms.

“Salomé might be a professional,” Gwen said, “but perhaps she would like to have some sous chefs?”

“I’ll have two of the units in the sitting room do that and basically look like twin clones of her, you supposed, “except half as fat and half as old. Maybe I’ll call them Chocolate and Cinnamon, and they can have similarly colored skin.” Without you noticing, two of the units automatically complied with your request and hustled into the kitchen to assist Salomé.

“Mmm, whatever she’s making smells heavenly,” Gwen smiled, “So which room are we entering?”

Which room do you enter?
