Katie pointed to a door in the distance, “what’s that?” She asked,
“Why would I know…” Tiff replied, sarcastically, “but let’s find out!” She said, racing past her friend to the door.
Katie heard pieces of broken glass crack under her feet. The house was old, not completely abandoned, but there were broken bits and pieces here and there.
“Katie, c’mon!” She called her friend, waving her hand so that her friend would join her, “Help me open this door, it’s really tight!” She said. Katie walked over to her. She looked at her friend, sighed, and placed her hands on the front of the door and started pushing. Both girls pushed on it, hard. But to no avail.
They looked at each other, Katie was ready to give up, but Tiff wanted to see what was inside,
“On three,” Tiff said,
“Are you sure about this?” Katie asked,
“Absolutely!” She replied, confidently,
“Alright… fine,” Katie agreed.
“One,” Tiff said, readying her push,
“Two,” Tiff said. Katie adjusted her position,
“THREE!!” Tiff yelled. Both girls pushed at the same time, as hard as they could. And, as good teamwork does, the door burst open. Both girls tumbled into the dark room.
As soon as they entered, a light suddenly flicked on.
Katie was the first person to stand up, “ew! Dust!” She began to brush herself. But there was no dust, the floor was pretty much spotless, aside from the occasional item scattered around the floor,
“What the hell is this stuff?” Tiff asked, pushing herself up to her feet. She picked up a small metal marble from the ground, examining it briefly before dropping it back to the ground.
“I have no idea,” Katie responded, looking at the array of shelves that had been tightly packed into what seemed like a living room. The shelves each contained what looked like an endless number of gadgets, gizmo’s, products, stones, you name it… if it didn’t belong in the room, it was for some reason there.
“There’s a note,” Tiff said, walking towards a desk, crowded by many different items, “it reads:
Note to Self,
The key for the door is next to the Whimsapier, which is found on the shelf that has the Googliogo and the Pillidilly.
Don’t forget where it is! The door locks automatically!”
“The door?” Katie said, confused. She turned to face the door. And in perfect timing, she noticed a piece of string suddenly start spinning, followed by a ball that rode down a little slide mechanism. The ball hit a bell, the bell chimed three times. The dings from the bell caused a set of dominoes on the other side of the room to start to knock each other over. The final domino hit a metal ball, attached to another string, which suddenly swung across the room, almost knocking over a vacuum cleaner. The pendulum suddenly smacked the door, which was being held open by a metal chain. The swing caused the chain to snap, causing the door to slam shut with a loud BANG!
“NO!” Katie yelled, “We’re trapped in here!” She yelled, falling to her knees, barely avoiding two sharp metal jacks.
“Katie, calm down,” Tiff said, brushing her friend off. She had always been the dramatic type, “the note said exactly where the key is,” Tiff said, confidently walking to one of the shelves, “its over…” she looked around, suddenly realising the trouble they were in.
Tiff forced a smile, “why find the key so soon, when we can look at all this interesting… junk…” she said, kicking away an old sock.
“Are we trapped…” Katie asked, ready to start crying,
“No!” Tiff yelled, “we’re not!” She reassured her friend, “it’s around here somewhere… how long could it take?” She asked, rhetorically…
