"I'm glad you all were able to make it." The dog said, "Welcome to human obedience training."
"Obedience training..." Amber mumbled. Her speech was a bit garbled, her tongue feeling impossibly long in her mouth. She still felt hot, and started to pant, which helped keep her cool.
Jodie was looking toward the front of the room, and Amber wasn't going to risk trying to move yet to get close enough to talk. Not with this leash around her neck. She looked at her geography teacher, Mr. Williams. He was the most boring and serious man she had ever met, but right now, he was sitting on the floor, completely naked, his tongue hanging out of his mouth, and a stupid looking grin on his face.
"Now, because your humans are, shall we say, less than obedient" The corgi said, causing all the dogs to laugh at the bad joke, "Go ahead and take a moment to let them socialize. It'll burn off a little energy and make them more pliant."
"You hear that, girl? You are going to make some new friends." Amber finally looked up at the hand holding her leash. A young golden retriever smiled down at her. How was he standing upright? Amber suddenly felt stone-cold sober, but completely confused.
She tried to get to her feet again, but found she couldn't. Meanwhile, the dog holding Jodie gave a gentle tug on her leash, urging her toward Amber. Amber watched as Jodie approached her. She didn't look confused. She had the same grin on her face as their teacher. Jodie leaned forward, sniffing, and touched her nose to Amber's.
She then moved to sniff something a lot more personal. "Jodie?!?" Amber said, her speech still garbled. The other human turned her head back to look at Amber. For a moment, the confusion returned to her face. "Amber?" She said. "What's going on?"
The dogs didn't seem to notice this exchange, or the speech. "I don't know, but we've got to get out of here..." Amber said.
"Amber, I feel..." She trailed off in mid sentence, the confusion fading from her face again.
"Jodie?" Amber said, worried.
Jodie began barking her, then tackled her.
"Jodie, don't play too rough," A German shepherd told her.
Amber rolled around with Jodie, finding herself participating in...whatever they were doing, almost instictively. Jodie had been there for a second, but then she was gone again.
