I hesitantly sat down next to her, unsure if I was pleased with the new Kyra.
"What's wrong?" she asked me, looking quite confused.
"Kyra..," I sighed, "You just don't seem like the old you."
"Of course I don't," she said, smiling. "I'm new and improved. Well, I'm still stuck in this weak fucking form, but that won't be a problem once the sun sets."
"But Kyra, I liked the old you. I kind of feel like I don't even know the girl sitting next to me," I protested.
"You LIKED the old me? You sure had a funny way of showing it. You barely ever noticed me!" Kyra snapped. "In case you couldn't tell, I've been carrying a torch for you for a couple of years!"
"I noticed, but-" I started.
"But what?" she interrupted, "You were too busy smoking weed with my brother to give me the time of day? No, face it, you didn't really care about the old Kyra, the quiet Kyra, the Kyra who would sit in her room and peek out the window at you two playing football in the backyard! I didn't have the strength before..the confidence to tell you how I felt."
"Kyra, it's not that simple, really," I tried to say, but she cut me off again.
"Actually, it IS that simple!" she snapped. She leapt at me, pinning me down on the couch, now straddling me. "Now, I can tell you what I want. I want YOU. It'll be perfect, tonight you join the pack, and we can be together; we'll be mates!" She was grinning maniacally at me, her mouth inches from my neck. "The bite only hurts for a second, I promise. A few minutes after that, you'll be one of us."
"Kyra, why are you doing this? I don't know if I want to be a werewolf!" I said, trying to reason with her.
"It's not about whether you want it or not. It's a matter of survival. We're the new evolution, whether you like it or not, my love. You either join us, or you die. You become part of the food chain, the top or the bottom. And I love you too much to let you make the stupid choice." She was looking at me in a way that was both adoring and psychotic. I struggled to push her off of me, but couldn't. Apparently, she retained a certain amount of her supernatural strength, even in human form.
"Kyra, let me up," I said, trying not to sound like I was begging.
"See, you're so weak," she taunted, "You can't even protect yourself from little ol' me. Don't worry, love, we'll take care of that tonight. But until then, I can't really take the chance of you escaping." I started to protest, to say I wouldn't run, but her fist was already heading towards my chin. She hit me impossibly hard for her size, and I saw stars, then blackness.
And then...
