Ethan a 10-year-old boy with an athletic built, short black hair, brown eyes and a light brown tan, is sitting in his room. “Man, I feel so bored,” the boy whines, he takes out his phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy A52, and opens the app-store, “let’s see if there aren’t any new games”. The boy scrolls through the games, “have that one… and that one… and that one,” he says, “boring… boring… bo… oh wait, what’s this,” he asks as his eyes land on a game labeled “The Chronivac”. He opens the game to read the description, “so, this… “game”… supposedly is able to transform people and objects into various things,” the boy says, after reading the description, “yeah… sure and my name is Donald Duck,” he says, rolling his eyes.
Ethan is about to exit the site and app-store, but hesitates, “something tells me to give it a shot,” he mumbles, ”my curiosity is sparked”. The boy decides to download the game, “what!? Five hours to download and install,” he asks, “damn… that must be a huge game. I just hope it does not cause my saving percentage on my phone to decrease to much”. Ethan lets out a sigh, “well… I hope it’s worth the wait,” he says, “I guess I’ll just finish off my homework, I still have plenty to do”.
Later that evening, Ethan is sitting on his bed in his Pjs, reading a book, when his phone suddenly chimes. Ethan picks it up and looks at the message, “download and installation complete,” he reads, “finally”. The boy opens the app and reads the welcome message, “thank you and welcome to the “Chronivac”, the program which can and will change your life and that of others. We assume you are thinking, “what the hell?”, and that you are not really convinced by what this program can do. We don’t blame you, but it is true, this program was developed by scientists and people who are fed up with their “boring lives”, and who wish to make their lives more interesting. Ever wondered what it would be like if you were the opposite gender? Ever wondered what it would be like being a dog or other animal? How about a toy or a vehicle? All these desires can be satisfied with the help of this program, but be warned: it is NOT a game, in the wrong hands this program can be very dangerous. How about you try something small, as a test, like changing your hair color? You can decide for how long the change shall last: an hour? A day? Or even permanent. Go ahead and we are positive that you’ll be convinced,” the boy reads, “just simply scan yourself using the camera on your phone, put your phone on a table or some other high object, then simply press the green “scan” button and follow the instructions on the screen”.
Ethan raises an eyebrow, “so, I can become anything I want and even transform others,” he asks himself, “I still don’t believe a simple app has such power, but I guess it won’t hurt to test it, besides: I am curious”. The boy thinks for a while, “I always wondered how I’d look like with blond hair,” he mumbles. Ethan gets quietly out of bed and puts his phone on his desk, standing it upright by leaning it against his penholder. He then opens the camera and spots an extra button labeled “scan”. The 10-year-old presses the scan button and a message appears, “preparing to scan subject,” it says, “please move away from the camera until you see a big “OK” on the screen”. Ethan does as instructed, once in position a new message pops up, “please stand still, scanning subject now”. The boy watches as a bright bluish line appears on the screen of his phone, the line moves from the top all the way down and back up again. There is a *ping* and a message appears, “scan complete,” Ethan walks up to the phone and opens the app. He spots a new folder on the start screen of the app labeled “scanned subjects,” the boy opens the folder and his eyes widen as he sees a folder with his name underneath. Ethan opens the folder and gasps, the folder not only contains his name, address, age and height, but also very personal stuff, above all of this he sees a 3D-image of himself. “Holy… crap,” he whispers, “this app is scary, it knows everything about me…. Even my darkest desires, which not even my best friend knows about”. After the first shock settles the boy decides to change his hair from black to blond. He taps on “hair color” and changes the color from black to blond. Before he confirms the change, Ethan walks up to his full length mirror, the boy takes a deep breath, “well… here it goes,” he mumbles and presses the “confirm” button.
At first nothing seems to happen, Ethan grumbles and scowls, “I knew this would be bull…,” suddenly he feels his head tingling and his eyes widen as he watches his hair slowly becoming blond. The color starts at the roots of his hair and slowly spreads like water until in a matter of minutes the boy has blonde hair. Ethan stares in disbelief, “okay, I take that back,” he says, “it actually works,” the boy stares down at his phone in shock. The boy feels fear start to raise in him, but that feeling soon subsides when thoughts of what he could do with the program fill him with curiosity. Ethan smiles wide, “I can’t wait to try out more tomorrow,” he says, “luckily I’ll have the whole house to myself for the weekend”. He turns his hair back to it’s original color, before climbing into bed, feeling giddy and excited, ideas of what to try out next already forming in his curious mind.
