Pulling into his driveway, Caleb sighed as he parked his jeep. It had been a rough week.
Jacob Moreland was still in the hospital and probably would be for the foreseeable future. Caleb's mom had been by her husband's side since his injuries, leaving the boys home alone. After Caleb had dropped his brother off he returned home. The responsibility of hunting had now fallen to him.
Entering his home, Caleb immediately noticed Daphne and Jim. The golem quietly cleaning the kitchen with Jim trying to assist. Caleb couldn't help but smirk as he watched the immortal skull now hold a cloth in his teeth as he wiped down the counter. Both now turned as they anxiously waited for news.
"Hows your dad," Daphne asked.
"Hes okay," Caleb sighed. "Mom and Connor are staying the night. Plus one of the wizards is standing guard outside his room, short blonde named Claudia. Have you guys seen Spark?"
The skull and golem exchanging a troubled look before looking to Caleb. "Shes in her room," Jim stated. "Shes taking this hard."
"Okay I'll talk with her," Caleb said. As he went to leave Daphne now called for him. "Gloria dropped this off," she said giving the teenage hunter a package wrapped in paper. Curiously gazing at the package, Caleb opened it, a small smirk spreading across his face.
"What is it?"
"Brand new stetson hat," he smirked, lifting the cowboy hat out of the box. Caleb now glanced at the note inside, his smile growing wider.
Sorry about your dad Caleb. I wish their was more I could do to help. Hope this helps at least. Your just not you without you hat.
Love, Gloria
P.S. I enchanted it for you so it will never break
Caleb now placed the new stetson on his head, tipping the brim as he looked between Jim and Daphne. "Hows it look?"
Jim and Daphne nodded in approval as Caleb now made his way towards Sparks room. As the teenage hunter walked down the hall, he could see signs of Sparks frustrations.
Small holes now littered the wall, signs that the fairy had been punching the wall. Caleb shook his head, knowing he would probably need to patch that before his dad got home. Approaching Sparks enclosed room he could see the fairy sitting on her couch, her shoulders slumping as she now played a video game. "How you doing Spark?"
"Fine."
Caleb furrowed his brow to Sparks response. The fairies voice sounded as if she had been crying, her wings seeming to sag as she mindlessly played. Caleb now peered inside her room, seeing that the fairy had taken out her anger on her bed and couch.
"Mind if we talk?"
"Really don't want to talk," she sniffed. Spark now cursed loudly, her avatar having been shot by a sniper. Caleb watched as the tiny nude lept from her seat, flinging her controller at the wall. The tiny controller now splintered into a hundred pieces as the fairy wiped her nose.
"So you come to fire me," she moaned, wiping her eyes. "Can't blame you. I screwed up. I should have known something was wrong, I should of said something to your Pop. Instead I...I...and your dad..."
Spark trailed off the tiny fairies body beginning to tremble as she cried quietly. Caleb now reached into her room, gently picking up the nude fairy and gently rubbing her back..
"This wasn't your fault Spark," Caleb said softly.
"Yes it was," Spark sobbed. "Me and your dad were partners and I let him down! I should have seen that trap coming from a mile away!"
"None of us saw it coming," Caleb said softly. "Not even Dad, and besides if it wasn't for your quick thinking he would have bled out in the car."
"Guess that's all I'm good for," she grumbled. "Putting bandaids on bullet holes. Some guardian I am, couldn't even keep your dad from getting maimed. How would anyone ever trust me?"
"I trust you," Caleb replied.
Spark wiped her eyes, Caleb looking directly into her tear stained face. Spark watched with wide eyes as the teenage hunter now placed his free hand across his heart.
"I promise," he stated. "To treat you as family until the end of my days. To provide you with the comforts you richly deserve, and to defend you with my life if need be. So help me God."
Spark was speechless, Caleb had taken the vow Jacob himself had taken when they had become partners. The vow bound the two into a relationship that would enrich the fairy and provide him with her protection. "You...you took the vow?"
"Will you accept," he asked.
Spark now cried fresh tears, the fairy soaring out of Caleb's hand as she hugged the young hunters face. "Yes I accept," she cried.
Caleb could only smile as Spark wept, the two now bound by his solemn vow. Now he and Spark would be inseparable. Slowly the tiny nude fairy pushed away from Caleb, wiping her nose as she floated in front of him.
"I broke my old controller."
"I'll get ya a new one," he smirked. "Now what do you say? You want to help me get some payback?"
"Those bloodsuckers don't stand a chance," she smirked. Caleb nodded, with the two of them working together the vampires didn't stand a chance.
