I saw a dim glow of something in his
hands . . . the dull, luminous green of a
Palm computer screen.
"What the hell?" I growled.
And then all of that hell broke loose.
Suddenly, my stomach lurched as I
plunged downward. It was petrifying. In
the near darkness, I had no idea what
was going on . . . it was like being on a
roller coaster in the dark, like a candlelit
Space Mountain.
I fell, felt the floor beneath me. I couldn't
think of what had happened. Had the floor
beneath me somehow given way? But
why was there no sound? And I would
have fallen into the living room anyway,
which was well-lit. Carefully, I probed the
area with my hands. I was on a rug,
something rough, but it felt nothing like
my expensive berber.
"Hello?" I called, dragging myself
tentatively to my feet. I could see nothing
but shadows, and yet I could sense that
there were no walls in the vicinity.
Wherever I was, it was no longer the
small TV room. Was it?
"HELLO," someone said. Someone with
an extremely loud and deep voice.
"What's that?" I screamed, almost
jumping out of my skin. The voice had
come from everywhere.
"IT'S JUST ME, DOUG."
"Doug, what the hell is going on? Why do
you sound like that?" I was looking
desperately around me, trying to figure
out the joke.
"BECAUSE I SHRUNK YOU TO EIGHT
INCHES TALL."
And then something huge closed around
my body . . . something huge and warm
and strong . . . and I was rushing upward
at an incredible rate . . .
And then the light came on and the giant
space was painfully illuminated and
Doug was a giant too and what the fuck--
