Jeff awoke feeling great. The Chronivac reverted his body to normal removing all the beer and liquor he consumed, returning him to the state he was at before the transformation began. Jeff went downstairs to find his dad still passed out on the couch, which never happened.
Jeff made himself a bowl of cereal and thought back on what a success yesterday was... The specifics of the conversations and details of tasks like the oil change he somehow performed, were hazy but the feeling of having connected with his best friend continued to give him a warm fuzzy feeling.
"What the ever-loving Fuck?" Dad groaned from the living room not sounding nearly as happy. Mike came into the kitchen where Jeff was eating. "Why was I drinking last night and why did I drink so much? What happened? did I get bad news or something?" he asked dumping a nearly full mixed drink down the sink. He picked up the other glass Jeff left in the sink last night after gulping down his water. They were Dad's beer steins which usually went unused and were reserved for alcohol.
Jeff, being the only other person living in the house, should have answers but Jeff couldn't account for his whereabouts after noon, and also couldn't explain his dad spending time with a person that currently didn't exist whom he didn't remember... "Dad, you look pretty awful, what do you remember?" Jeff deflected.
"The game, some chores, TV... it feels like I'm missing half the story... Like I know I got the oil changed in my car without going to a mechanic." He fished a receipt out of his pocket for AutoZone. Jeff remembered they made a beer run and Jeff offered to take care of the oil change if Mike got the oil. One of the many small tasks that probably wouldn't hold up to Mike's scrutiny. "That's not something I know how to do but I don't remember anyone else, not even you. Where were you all day?" Mike finished while wincing and holding his head.
Jeff looked at the garbage can loaded with empty beer cans and bottles from the day, then back over to Mike who had gone to the freezer and pulled out what little remained of the handle of booze, now only 1/16th full... "I didn't do this by myself, who was here Jeff?"
"Uhh." Jeff stammered. If Jeff came clean he wouldn't even be able to prove it, Dad's "friend" was generated randomly by the gift package... Playing dumb would make Dad think Jeff was up to something because if Jeff was home, he should be able to answer these questions...
