Sally didn't hear the front door open when her parents returned home. She did hear the door slide open to the pool deck, followed by a scream and a crash. Sally turned to see her father kneeling over her mother on the floor. She had caught sight of Sally, cried our it terror at what had happened to her daughter, and fainted. Sally lumbered toward her parents.
"Is mom okay?"
"She didn't hit her head, thank goodness" said her father. He looked at his daughter, confused and concerned about her present condition.
"What about you?" he asked Sally. "Are you in pain?"
"It didn't hurt at all. Kind of awkward to walk around like this though. My skin feels a bit dry."
"Maybe it would be better if you got back in the pool while I tend to your mother."
Sally nodded and plunged back into the pool. It felt great to be in the saltwater.
Once Sally's mother had been helped to her room, Sally's father called up the lab that had created the experimental DNA treatment. They were surprised to hear what had happened and promised to send someone over immediately to get a blood sample from Sally to analyze.
Sally's father informed her help was on the way. Sally asked for some fish, which her father cooked.
As Sally clambered out of the pool for her dinner her father asked "Don't you have a bathing suit you can put on?"
Sally shrugged off the question. She'd lost her favorite bikini top when she grew a dorsal fin. Besides, she was half shark now; wearing clothes seemed ridiculous, especially when swimming.
Dinner was finished and Sally returned to the pool. Minutes later, the doorbell rang. Sally's father answered and spoke with the scientist who had arrived to investigate Sally's situation. Sally's father led the scientist to the pool, introduced Sally, then went back inside.
