Mike's eagerness was feigned. It was the job of all genie kind to destroy their masters in the process of their wish-making. The survival of their race depended on it. A single wish could be the downfall of their world, "I wish all of humanity knew how to trap a genie in a bottle." and poof, all genie kind is at risk of becoming a slave to humanity.
"Sure dad, but do I get unlimited wishes, or is that three wish thing for real?" Jeff asked innocently.
"You get as many wishes as it takes, Master," Mike responded instantly regretting his word choice, he was new at this too after all.
"As many as it takes to do what?"
"To make you happy, of course. To fulfill your every desire. Until you wish to pass me on to a friend or share me with a family member!"
"Dad! I'm going to change you back to human after this! This isn't permanent!"
Mike went pale, "No Jeff, I can't go back, I know too much now, and a human with my knowledge would be destroyed. If I get erased from existence you will be too. I have to stay this way." Mike was torn between his fatherly instinct to protect Jeff and his Genie desire to remove Jeff's access to the cosmic power Mike now wielded.
"How would anyone know? Who could even do that?" Jeff asked.
Mike became stern. "I've said too much already! Master, make your wish."
"I wish you back into your bottle, I need to think."
Mike was shocked by this, "As you wish, but heed my warnings, don't mess around with this or you'll get yourself destroyed or trapped like me." Mike swirled away into his bottle leaving Jeff alone with much to ponder.
Jeff was really confused by his dad's reaction and the thought of a one day experiment leaving his dad trapped forever was horrifying. He didn't seem to want to stay a genie, only that becoming human again posed a threat... Jeff went to the chronivac reasoning that a reversion to human along with a removal of the last 10 minutes of memories would be safe, so he pulled up Mike's profile. Instead of the details, it showed Mike's name and "Modifications not available for target." It didn't say target out of range or anything else, he simply no longer had access to his Dad in the chronivac... his dad was trapped and Jeff had no control over the situation.
Mike wasn't sure how long Jeff would need, it may be a few minutes or a few days before his son is ready to talk. He slowed time in his bottle so he could come up with a plan on how to deal with his son. His desire to remove Jeff's ability to make wishes was already growing, and the way he was thinking was changing, the longer he was a Genie. One person, a human no less, compared to the safety of an entire race, his race no less... but his son...
Mike looked for loopholes, 'destroy' could have flexible meanings after all. Obliterate is one meaning... but replacing Jeff's current life with a different one would technically destroy his current life. Making a human become an animal is one solution. Also getting a human so distracted with their new life was another option. Sex, drugs, fame, responsibility were all potential distractions.
Mike's paternal instinct flared up against a few of those thoughts but again, the needs of the many colored his perspective, and he began coming up with ways to twist his son's wishes...
