Just as the boyfriend, James, had finished and 'Dave' (as the original story name sets him as) is just about to let go of the pen, a lecherous look and in his eyes with anticipation, the fire alarm in the building suddenly goes off, setting off the sprinkler system. In turn, this chain of events causes the paper that 'Dave' was holding to suddenly smear the ink before the writing was finished, smearing what the writing said and making the writing illegible.
In the boyfriend's mind, he was thankful his life didn't just get replaced, but was uncertain what was going to come of this, eyeing the paper and 'Dave' nervously as one of the other employees came in, namely one of the package delivery men for the office floor, panting and hastily stating in a panicked voice, "There's a fire in the mail room! One of the deliveries that came in today came from our competitors and..."
It was at that moment that Irwin, the mail delivery man for the floor, had gathered that something wasn't quite right with this scenario: a woman on the floor, a man in a slight lunging position that looked almost physically impossible to stay in, and the man he knew as 'Dave' with a rather befuddled, but quickly enraged face looking back at him, a golden pen in hand and a paper that was illegible and dripping wet as the water continued gushing out of the security sprinkler system that was installed throughout the office.
The boyfriend James was just about to open his mouth as well, panic in his eyes as he starts with "Good sir, I require your assistance, immediately! This man..."
