"Kieran's still in there." Danny warned.
The man with a dart gun nodded, and shoulder-bashed the wall, forcing it open again in order to snipe Kieran with the counter-agent. A few of the students ran in and hauled the rapidly deflating Kieran into the main dark hallway before anything else could happen.
"Looks like that's the Starlingsea math class back together." the professor said after a quick headcount. "I'm not sure if anyone else is in this section, but it looks like we've got our group at least. Doctor, how's the recovery?"
The doctor grimaced, checking the still rather enlarged Kieran with some form of cellphone attached to a scanning device. Kieran's dick was down to something approximating a large soda bottle rather than a fire hydrant, but it wasn't really shrinking further. Kieran looked more confused than anything, shaking his head as if trying to snap out of something complicated.
"Counteragent's holding the nanites in check, but we were just too late to establish dominance." the doctor said. "Should be able to get his dick size down from hyper but I'll need to deal with config installs."
"The hell is going on here?" Danny finally worked it up to ask. "Why're we in a weird sex growth experiment?"
"Most men on campus are." the professor said, looking over the random rescue teams. "Our best guess is that the experimental nanotechnology construction projects achieved a technological singularity. Their AI started self-improving faster and from the look of it found one of the contributors' stashes of erotic fiction. It's trying to recreate something from a game in reality, and it's redesigned most of the college to do it. Most of the time that appears to involve transforming us into fetishistic variations."
"I got lucky with the experiment I was in." the doctor said, hefting their dartgun and linked cellphone-scanner. "This lad's apparently something designed as a settings panel for various nanite experiments. I was able to get out of the test program and set it to put other things on pause or turn 'em off. We might have to start configuring in new transformations to adapt to all the stuff circulating, but we'll see what we find."
"Any idea how we get out of here?" Danny asked.
"Not sure." the professor said. "I'm pretty sure it got most of us at night when it hit the neighborhood past the dorms. We've been covering enough ground that we're probably across most of campus by now, but it's not looking good. If the nanoproject was able to cover the whole place in one night, it's probably gotten most of the city by now. Doctor's unsure where it gets the material from for inside-person changes, probably figured out some exotic physics free energy thing. Our break-out party is just going and seeing if we can find anywhere useful to take stuff from. If we can't find anywhere unaffected, these empty hallways are probably it."
Kieran managed to stand back up and zip up by the time this conversation wrapped up.
