The last month was something of an adjustment period for most people. For Jack and his brothers’ family, it was mostly an issue of adjusting to the new norm. Harrison found himself cussing a lot, which Nicole did not approve of around Brady, and were causing issues at work, so he had begun trying to speak closer to normal, though it was difficult for him. Nicole had begun to wear a back brace daily, her body not being made to carry her now watermelon-sized boobs. The two of them also had to buy a weight set for their now muscle-obsessed 3-year-old boy. Brady loved how life was now, he loved his working out his body and showing it off, meaning he usually walked through the house without a shirt and covered in sweat.
And they all had to get used to living with Jack, a 3-year-old still living an adult life. None of them had found the transition easy, and Jack found himself torn between trying to life his old life the best he can and trying to live his new life. He also felt a bit demeaned by his new selection of clothes, which mostly consisted of kids’ pop culture references on T-shirts and shorts that were so small they didn’t have pockets. His new tennis shoes also had some kids show’s characters printed on the sides, which he wore with shame.
One night, when they were having dinner, each of the three adults’ phones buzzed at the same time. Try each picked up their phones, curious, and read on their screen: “New Glitch Incoming and Everything You Need to Know About it.”
As they read on, a new type of Glitch was coming. While this first Glitch made people trade parts of themselves, this Glitch will force people to trade roles with the people they live with. This could present in one of a few ways:
First, roles in a group could swap around but it would normalize everything. For example, a father might become the son, and his physical and mental age would change to match his new role. Meanwhile the son would grow older and mature to be a father.
Second, roles would swap but it wouldn’t normalize, meaning the son would not be the father but would still be younger and more immature.
Third, the roles would normalize based on how a living situation was now. For example, if a woman’s daughter was now older than her by a couple years, the daughter would instead become the older sister. However, the now sisters would both chance to look and act more similarly as if they had always been sisters.
Lastly, any and all attributes could shuffle in a family, but the family would lose all memory of their lives ever being different.
Jack grew concerned. The first Glitch had screwed him out of a lot, what would this next one do?
