How much time had passed since he entered that dream-like state, Jake wondered. It was pitch black aside from a single ray of moonlight that shined in front of the mirror. Looking down at the body he was reflecting, it was that of a man he did not recognize. Jake was beginning to panic. Could so much time have passed that a new owner moved into his grandparents' (now parents') house? No, that couldn't be right. Surely someone would have come by the mirror before that happened.
Looking around, Jake saw the man he was reflecting. It was a man wearing all black and rummaging around the attic. It was then he remembered that his Dad (now brother-in-law) was talking about someone robbing the houses in this area. As much as Jake didn't want to trap anyone else in this mirror, he couldn't break this curse while still in this mirror himself. Plus, if there was a person he was fine with trapping in this mirror for a few years, it would be a thief that stole from grandmas and grandpas. Well, time to put on his best genie impression. Jake tapped on the glass to try and get the thief's attention.
"Hey, you," Jake called out. The thief nearly jumped in shock as he looked around for the voice that called out to him.
"Who's there? Mike?" The thief whispered as not to wake up any of the people in the house. Mike? Jake didn't know anyone named Mike. Could this be the thief's partner in crime? Something to note for later.
"To your left," Jake whispered back. The thief kept looking around for a bit before realizing that it was the mirror talking to him. Cautious but curious, the thief walked over to the mirror.
"What are you?" The thief asked.
"Oh, you know. Just your average magic mirror. Tell me, do you have a wish you would like to make? Power, fame, maybe even more a bit more muscle to help you carry that stuff? I can grant you that wish, at a cost, of course. But you should be used to risks in your line of work, right? So what do you say? Will you tell me your wish?"
And hopefully, help me get out of this mirror.
