You're so distracted by the shiny that you don't even notice when Max comes back in. He chuckles and resumes getting dressed. You finally notice him only when he opens the cage door and gently reaches in to grab you, just as if you were a bird.
"Oh! I didn't see you come back!"
"Haha, you really are like a bird. You'll love being in the enclosure, lots of shiny things to attract wild ravens - when we don't have the netting over the top to protect you, of course. Mom and Dad are trying to work out some way to keep predators out but let ravens and crows in, but in the meantime, you'll be fine in there."
"So...I'm not going to school?" you ask as he slowly takes you from his room and out his house's backdoor.
"Nope! I talked it over with Mom, and we agreed - you're basically never going to use anything else you would learn in school as a full time pet, so there's really no reason to add the hassle of taking you. So, she'll call the school and withdraw you, and you can stay in the enclosure all day!"
With that, he opens the door to the enclosure, gently places you inside - and then closes the door, locking it. The sound of the latch seems thunderous to you.
"You're officially my pet anthro-raven, [Your name!] Now I gotta get to school. You have fun!"
He turns to leave, and you feel queezy. Why were you ever ok with this?? You're losing your humanity, being reduced to a pet! Soon no one will remember you've ever been human, they'll all just think-
Your train of thought is broken when you spot a worm. You dive for it instinctively, slurping it up into your beak like spaghetti. It's delicious. By the time you're done, your eye has been caught by some colored glass hanging in a wind chime in the enclosure. You spend all day darting from distraction to distraction, like a real bird brain.
Eventually, the sun begins to sink, and Max returns. He feeds you again, letting you bounce around the enclosure for another hour or so, before bringing you in and putting you back in your bird cage. You and he watch movies for the rest of the evening, and then you begin to drift off to sleep in your nest. Eventually Max notices, rises, and puts the cloth cover over the cage. As you plunge into darkness, you also plunge into sleep.
