Kerry was amazed at how quickly he had gotten himself ready. Kate was still fussing around in the bathroom. Kerry left the bedroom and returned to the kitchen. He practiced lifting one of the kitchen chairs with one hand. It was also so much easier to reach up to the upper shelves. He imagined what it might be like to be even taller, Michael or Dude’s height. Michael was much taller than Tom.
Still waiting for Kate he practiced dance steps in front of the mirror. It would be a challenge to actually lead but he was pretty confident he could handle the responsibility.

The hotel receptionist came into the lounge and whispered into Bill’s ear.
“Looks like our Limo has arrived”
Tom looked at his drink. She upended the inch of fluid from the bottom of the flute into her mouth. Then stood up. She noticed Margie had left her half full glass on the table.
This time it was Margie who took Tom’s hand. As the ladies followed the men out of the bar “Where did you find that skirt?” she asked.
Tom had no idea where or for how long Kerry had owned the leather skirt she was wearing. She said the first thing that came into her mind. “I bought it on my honeymoon” Michael was busy talking to Bill so was unlikely to correct her.
“Oh where did you go?”
“Hawaii” Tom knew that. Not that she had ever been to Hawaii personally.
“Oh! I love Hawaii. Where did you stay? What did you do?”
Now Tom was in trouble. He had no idea. If she kept guessing she was likely to get into a bigger hole. She had to be vague. “We mostly stayed at the resort. It was our honeymoon” She hoped Margie would ask for more details.
Margie chuckled “So you spent most of the time with your legs in the air! Good for you girl!”
Once more Tom could tell she was blushing. She had to move to a safer subject “What happens at the president’s dinner?” Tom realized she should have asked that question earlier. She didn’t want to let Margie know that she already had a pretty good idea.
“I’ve attended about half a dozen. From my experience lots of speeches and usually a half cold dinner. And if they think you have money, a hard sell to become a sponsor. They usually try and get one or two injured players to attend and a couple of former players to spread around the tables”
“And are your other guests going to be there?”
“No. We thought the speeches would be two much for people who have never been to a game before. Jacob, one of Bill’s executives will be bringing them straight to the box. Actually could I ask you a favor? You seem to be knowledgeable about the game and are about the same age as the graduating daughter. Would you mind if I sat her with you, so you might be able to explain any questions she has? I’ll be trying to entertain Mrs Soo who has limited English while Bill will have his hands full with the father”
