Shawn gasped and immediately regretted the inhaling of breath. The huge bull moose had a rancid stink that was combined with a small cloud of gnats and flies, some of which ended up in his mouth. He spat out the insects as best he could, then froze as he realized the massive animal was leaned down to snuffle at him curiously. The boy thought frantically. He'd never heard of moose attacking humans, and they seemed to be mostly peaceful herbivores. But it was so friggin' big! The antlers were higher than the roof of his brother's lifted pickup - it had to weight a half-ton at least! Bristled lips brushed his face, then lipped at his nose. Shawn fought an impulse to jerk away, hoping the flat but powerful teeth didn't get used.
Some of the huge lightning bugs had moved down from the branches, their lights oddly bright and much larger than he expected. He could feel them land lightly on him, and wondered vaguely how they could seem to have so much weight. But he found that he could not tear his eyes away from the moose. It stared back at him, liquid brown orbs curious and inviting. And the smell wasn't nearly so bad now. Still strong, but there was something in it that Shawn found... interesting.
He shifted uncomfortably, his pajamas feeling tight around his shoulders and legs, the thin fabric suddenly tearing apart as he rolled up to hands and knees. Something was off, but the huge bull kept dragging the focus of Shawn's mind. The animal didn't seem so intimidating now, and his scent was actually rich and exciting. Exciting!? Shawn tried to shake off the increasing attraction, his previous sexual experience limited to a few wet dreams and some embarrassing erections. Looking at the male stirred sensations that were vaguely familiar, but also very new.
The fireflies were on his back and neck and head. There was a sense of numbness in his hands, and he looked down to see the last of his fingers closing up into massive cloven hooves. Forehooves, at the end of arms that were becoming massive, furry forelegs. He stared down at them, then at very similar limbs of the bull moose, who lipped at the top of his head. Shawn felt confused, but not scared, not even concerned. He gradually understood that he was becoming a moose. And as the scent took hold, he realized he was becoming a female moose. That was also curious, but he simply accepted the transformation as he rapidly gained mass and size. As -she- rapidly gained mass and size.
The fireflies suddenly swarmed up around her, and she realized that they were not fireflies at all. She could hear them now, not buzzing, but laughing and telling her what a fine mother she would be, and what a boon to the forest. They were giving her new memories now, a lifetime of existence as a moose, survival and instincts, knowledge of the woods and of the bull that would soon be her mate. She did not care that they were also removing memories of school, of family, of being human. Those thoughts were confusing, and it was good to be rid of them. The young female was in her first heat, and the bull licked and nuzzled her slick rump.
The fae all laughed and applauded as the bull mounted the cow, celebrating the total removal of another human and the addition of a beast. After the pair had completed the mating, they wandered off into the forest while the fae looked for yet another human to make part of their world.
