"C...Can you drive me to school mom? And not just today but for...a while?" Elanor asked nervously pushing up her glasses
"Of course sweetie" Mrs. Rothenberg said walking around the island and kissing her daughter on the cheek, that's something strange Elanor had started to notice, while her mother was never cold or heartless towards her or her sister , her caring side was coming out more since this change
Gathering everything needed, Elanor headed out to the driveway and got in her mom's van before Mrs. Rothenberg pulled out of the driveway and drove off. The drive to school left Elanor with so many things on her mind, the more obvious thing she knew was the moment she set foot out of her mother's vehicle was the moment she would be stepping into a lions den and she was the nerdy little antelope but through knowing that she also couldn't help but try and think on the hopeful side that or won't be all bad
Elanor was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice her mom pulling into the school "Sweetie we're here" her mother's voice pulled her out of her thoughts
"Oh thank you mom" Elanor said gathering up her backpack and opening the door "Wait a minute young lady" Mrs. Rithenberg said in a comedically serious tone
"What? Did I miss..." she said turning back to her mother who cut her off by pulling her daughter in and kissing her on the cheek
"Have a good day sweetums!" she said loudly enough for a large chunk of students to hear and giggle at
Now embarrassed Elanor leaped out of the car and as her mom drove away she pulled out her schedule to check what her first class was before pulling out the appropriate books needed, turning around to face the school, holding her books close to her body she stood there for a moment, taking a deep breath before walking into the school
Upon entering the school hall Elanor started off slow and steady with that feeling like a monster was gonna pop out and eat her at every turn but eventually she found herself easing up more "Well this isn't so bad" she thought walking more casually and with a little bit more of a spring in her step but still kept her books close to her, as she turned the corner and just as she thought she was in the clear it happened
As she made a beeline for her locker at the end of the hall she failed to notice the outstretched leg awaiting her and tripped over it "WAAOOOH" Elanor yelled landing with a loud THUNK on the floor with the uproar of student laughter to follow and the sound of camera phones
Ignoring the mocking Elanor labored to pick herself back up unfortunately the process was slow and managed to lift up her head to see a pair of feet staring back at her, blocking her view of the hallway
