"Hold on," Yuriko exclaimed. "You've been visiting my grandchildren to see if they have magic! Why?"
Fukushu furrowed his brow, glaring at the elderly wizard. "We have been enemies since your birth Yuriko," he stated. "I have despised wizards for nearly a century. During that time I have kept tabs on potential enemies. Your offspring would have posed a threat, if they had magic."
"Touche," Yuriko grumbled. The elderly wizard now sighed as she glowered at the kitsune. "Why would you let Casseus experiment on a child?"
"I didn't," Fukushu replied. "I had heard rumors of Casseus's experiments following Villar demise. Our alliance with the government opened new avenues. Casseus was convinced he could sever a wizards connection to the arcane I didn't believe him. When I discovered he was experimenting on children though I abandoned him. That was how Akira and the others were able to rescue you so easily."
"I would hardly call the rescue easy Fukushu," Akira grumbled. "I nearly lost my life."
"If I had been there you would have."
"Okay this isn't helping," Darren sighed. Pinching the bridge of his nose he now looked between Fukushu and the others. "Fukushu what's the information you have?"
"It appears the Normal have a werewolf," Fukushu stated. "As well as other horrors which they will unleash upon you. Also, they appear to have perfected necromancy. A school of magic even your teacher will tell is nearly impossible to learn."
A murmur now began to stir amongst the others, it appeared Fukushu's information was legitimate. Still, Darren felt he needed to do something. "Is it possible to reestablish a families connection to magic?"
"Reestablish the connection," Fukushu scoffed. "Doubtful, whatever magic and science Casseus used is now lost. I doubt any wizard could reverse it."
"Even a Catalyst?"
Fukushu raised an eyebrow. "Perhaps," he said softly. "Are you sure about this?"
"It seems right," Darren stated. "Casseus hurt Ms. Yuriko. He indirectly hurt her family. I want to fix what he did."
Fukushu now glanced between Darren and Yuriko. It pained him to even contemplate reconnecting Yurikos family to magic. They had been an enemy since Yomis death. He had fought the Harris family for nearly a century, killing Claudia, Shiro, and indirectly Mika, Tom, and Evan. His hatred of humans and wizards had dominated his life. Still, he was trying to change, to not let his lust for vengeance dominate him, to be better for the sake of his son. Perhaps by allowing Darren to try he could take a meaningful step.
"So be it Catalyst, you may try."
Darren nodded, focusing his gaze on Yuna. Focusing on the young woman, he now began to reach out with his magic. Beads of sweat eginning to form on his brow. He could sense something, reaching out he could sense a thread, like a string pulled loose from a tapestry. Darren now began to focus on the thread, trying to connect it once more with the energy of Yurikos family.
"Darren?"
"I'm okay Ms. Yuriko," Darren grunted. "Its...hard..like trying to...reknit a sweater after...its been pulled apart."
Yuriko said nothing, watching Darren seeming to strain under the weight of his spell. After several minutes, Darren collapsed, his breathing labored. "Its done."
"What did you do," Yuriko asked.
"I reconnected Yuna to magic," Darren wheezed. "I restored the families magical line."
Yuriko and the others gaped gazing at Yuna and Darren in shock. It was Fukushu who now stepped forward, his gaze lingering on Yuna. "Only one way to be sure."
Fukushu unsheathed his sword, leaping at Yuna before anyone could react. Yuna screamed, raising her hands in fear.
Before anyone could even move they watched as Fukushu's sword flew from his hands, embedding itself in Yuriko's wall. The others shocked and confused as to what had happened in only seconds.
"What just happened," Yuna exclaimed.
Yuriko turned to Fukushu, the elderly wizards eyes seeming tobglow with anger. "You tried to kill my granddaughter!"
"Yes," Fukushu stated. "However it was the only way to be sure. Fear is the easiest way to determine a wizards potential. Especially if they are new to their powers."
"Wait hold on," Yuna exclaimed. "Are you saying I have magic?"
"Yes," Fukushu stated. "And so is your child." Yuna now glanced down at her stomach, her eyes growing wide as she wrapped her arms around her midsection. Yuna, Yuriko, and Dashon staring wide eyed at Yuna and Fukushu.
"If we're finished," Fukushu groaned. "I still have much to discuss with the Catalyst."
"Wait Fukushu," Yuriko exclaimed. Fukushu paused, frowning as he stared at the elderly wizard. "I don't know what to say."
"There is nothing to say Yuriko," he said. "Now let me talk with the Catalyst. I will need his help."
