Rikki soon headed out of sight, as the young girl was really fast for having such short legs. Left to his own thoughts, Roy wasn't moving all that fast anyways. He then saw a group of tween girls on a doorstep, crowded around a tablet, watching some TikTok video.
He almost didn't give them any mind, but then he saw a woman in her late 30's walking with a girl who looked a great deal like her, but younger, about 14 or so. The woman looked pretty good for her age, if tired.
Yes, this would do nicely. He chose one of the tweens and then swapped her with the Mother. While the former tween girl didn't seem to really be bothered by having her age trebled (as she still wore the same kind of clothing), something more profound was occurring.
Now the 15 year old was walking with a girl of 11 who didn't look anything like her at all. Their relationship dynamic hadn't changed, nor had the younger girl's outfit of sweatpants, sandals, and a baggy shirt. At first, Roy thought that nothing else had really changed, until he got close enough to hear their conversation.
"It's just, still weird to me, Mom. You looking like a kid and all."
"I know, honey, believe me, it's no picnic for me either. Everyone treats me differently now. I can't drive, I get carded at the store...if we didn't have that settlement money, I don't know what I'd do."
"I'm sorry. I guess it has been rough for you, since the transplant. And here I am bitching about my problems."
The smaller girl hugged the taller one. "Hey, it's ok, honey. I'm just glad you didn't reject me the way your father did."
"Of course not! It's you and me, all the way."
Transplant? What? He paused and searched Google on his phone.
"World's first successful brain transplant! Two years ago, 35 year old housewife Amber Banes was struck by a car, pushing her daughter out of it's path. Her body shattered, she was given months to live, and would have died if not for the efforts of Dr. Daniel Reid. Mrs. Banes was flown out of the country to an undisclosed site, and had her brain transplanted into the body of a young girl who had been in an accident of her own, that left her body alive, but her brain damaged beyond healing. The operation was a success, though tragedy struck as Mr. Banes divorced her, claiming a large portion of the insurance settlement for his own. Despite becoming a minor celebrity, Mrs. Banes has settled down in a quiet life in her hometown, with her daughter, Ashley, now 15.
The only lasting effect is that the drugs used to prevent Mrs. Banes's new body from rejecting her brain have apparently prevented her from going through puberty, leaving her trapped in the body of a 12 year old girl. When asked about this, Amber is reported as saying "along with everything else that's happened, I don't think I could take going through puberty a second time. I'm just so happy to be alive."
A lawsuit against her former husband for abusing her power of attorney is pending...
"Oh shit. I just created a world with brain transplants? I better stop screwing around!" Roy exclaimed.
But of course, he wouldn't...
