Alright I can come!” Alex told the girls excitedly. It was still kinda intimidating, but he was also starting to think and act more and more like this girl probably did, which was definitely also intimidating. The girl who invited him, Stephanie, give him her address and a time. They walked to the parking lot together, where Alex got back in the car.
“So, how’d it go?” asked his mom. “It was great! I had a lot of fun and met a lot of nice girls,” he replied and told her the rest of what had happened at practice. When he got home, he went back up the stairs and to his room. Closing the door behind him, he had his second moment alone with his new body. He let down his hair and walked over to stand in front the mirror once more. As he went to take his top off, he hesitated for a second, before reasoning that it was nothing he hadn’t done before and pulling it over his head. The girl staring back at him just looked normal, the same as any other day. A little concerned, he asked the mirror “Am I losing parts of myself by continuing to stay in this reality?” Text again appeared on its surface.
“One could argue you’re only becoming more of yourself.”
“But how much of me is this though?” he said gesturing at his reflection.
“It’s all of you. Every part of you from both lives. The mirror doesn’t erase experiences or growth from either.” There was a pause in the writing. “If you were to return to where you came from or move on to something new, you would not lose what you saw and did here, but you would behave closer to that life since that is who you are that moment. Therefore, as you are in this body currently, her life experiences are more present. She is you, you are her.” There was another pause before the mirror ended with “If this makes you uncomfortable you may always snap your fingers whenever you’re ready."
“No I feel very comfortable now, and that’s what scares me. I think I’ll stay a little longer,” Alex replied. He remembered back to what the mirror had said about guiding the changes and wondered what had led him here. Sighing, he removed his bra and skirt, and found a t-shirt and jeans to wear. Staring at the reflection in the mirror again, he decided to give in to this new life and what came with it for the moment, and see where it was going to take him.
Alexandra turned from the mirror and began to pack her bag for that night. Although a lot of things had come to her, she still wasn’t quite sure what she should bring. She went into the bathroom, which was surprisingly clean and not bad smelling, and grabbed her toothbrush and some toothpaste. Something in the back of her mind told her that she should have some tampons just in case since she didn’t yet know when her cycle was supposed to be, but that idea was still too scary for the old Alex to commit to. She went to the dresser next, to find something to wear the next day. She had learned that this girl didn’t really have a lot of options for pants, and she wondered why that was. She reached for the only other pair of jeans she could find before recoiling at the idea of what her mother would say if she came home in that the next day, but decided to take them anyway. She packed up the rest of her things and went downstairs.
