Mike turned and was stunned by what he saw. The unicorn was beautiful, silvery white and almost etheral. Despite living in the woods, she looked like she'd just beenb cleaned and brushed. Her irvory horn almost gleamed even in the darkly shadowed forest.
She tossed her head to get her long mane out of her eyes, "Let me lead you away from the village, freind. If they find you, they will harm you."
Mike nodded, "Can you help me find my freinds?" he asked.
She shook her head, "Not now, but perhaps tommorow or the next day. I do not know where they are hiding, but I know others in the forest who might know. Please, follow me."
She gracefully leap though the trees. Mike didn't have time to think, he simply leap after her. The unicorn was hard to keep in sight, she moved with a grace that he didn't think was possible for a creature so large. They ran for a great distance before she finally came to a stop around a small watering hole at the edge of a brightly lit clearing.
As Mike ran up, she was drinking deeply from the water. When she stopped, she looked at him, "We'll be safe here. I have long ago set up runes that protect this part of the forest from all that can harm me and those I protect." She indicated the water, "Drink and relax. If you want to find your freinds tommorow, you'll need to be rested."
Mike hesitated a moment. He had no reason to trust this creature, but everything legend said about unicorns was that they were fine, noble creatures. Part of him even considered running, but he also didn't know the forest. Without help, he would never locate his freinds.
