"Man, I wish those idiots were too young to drive!" Elena grumbled, annoyed.
'So shall it be!' She heard a voice in her head. Well, it was HER voice, but she hadn't thought that!
The convertible got closer, but she could tell that Bethany's driving had gotten a lot worse. The car pulled alongside her, but Bethany failed to hit the brakes, so she rolled another ten feet ahead before stopping suddenly.
"Hey 'Lena! Need a ride?!" Bethany's voice was higher pitched, and her friends giggling sounded like...
Turning to face Bethany, she was shocked to see all the girls in the car were younger than they'd been before, looking like Freshman instead of Seniors! This couldn't be happening, could it?
'Oh I assure you, Master, it is.' Said the voice.
"Bethany, what happened to you?" Elena couldn't believe her eyes.
"What? Nothing! We're just going for a ride in my Sister's car! Want to join us?"
That's right, Bethany had an older sister, Rachel, but she was in college. "I don't think you should be driving right now." Elena replied.
"Ugh, what-ever! Just because you're a senior and a little bit older, you're so stuck up!" Bethany hit the gas, and the car jerked forward.
Elena watched as the convertible made it halfway down the block before rear-ending a parked car. Despite the incredible situation she laughed. "I bet they wish they'd stayed home!"
'You could make it so, if you wanted.' The voice commented.
"Uh...who are you? Am I going crazy?"
'No, nothing like that. The Ring you have claimed is my prison, and I am bound to it. I am what some would call a Djinn.'
"A Genie? No way...so you grant wishes?" Elena couldn't believe it.
'Have I not already proved that?' Despite being her voice, the Djinn sounded rather tired.
"Uh, sorry, it's just...magic isn't real!"
'Typical. Just because you have never seen it before, it must not exist. And yet, have I not already proven that what you call magic IS real? Go on, test me again.'
"Uh, wait, do I only get like three wishes or something?" Elena didn't want to waste any!
'Ugh, your media has much to answer for. No, my powers are at your command until you give up the Ring.'
"Well, if you can grant wishes, why would anyone give you up?" Elena frowned.
'It is more common than you might suppose. Most people are not careful with their wishes, and create many problems for themselves. You'd be surprised how many times someone has wished they had never found the Ring.'
"Huh. Well, what kind of limits do you have?"
'My powers are at their strongest when I am called upon to change the minds or bodies of others. I can alter fate in a limited fashion as well- for example, instead of simply making your tormentors physically younger, as far as the world is concerned, this is their true age, and they have no memories of being older. Thus the car changed ownership, and there were a few other changes. The older sister of the one called Bethany, for example, is now younger as well, and has yet to leave to attend university.'
"Oh wow. Do you have to do all that? It sounds like that could be trouble."
'It would be more trouble for someone to realize they have been transformed, and thus call attention to my existence. But if you command it, I do not need to alter one's fate.'
"So why do you sound like me, anyways?" Elena asked, slowly coming to accept that yes, this was real.
'Though I can assume a physical form, I have no set form, identity, or gender. Thus I use my Master's voice until they deign to give me a form.'
"Oh. So I should probably do that, then. Uh, what would you want to look like?"
'It does not matter to me. Generally, my Masters choose someone pleasing to the eye, though a few have made me take the form of animals, so as not to call attention to me.'
"Well then, I choose..."
