Decades of silent suffering later, someone rummages through the drawer (David's "home", although he cannot see or hear or sense it in any way) and finds the weird brain cell housing David's consciousness.
She plugs it in.
David is enveloped in an astounding world of sensation. Sound! He can hear!
The static and the woman's voice are an absolute miracle. David is overwhelmed at the first sensation he'd experienced since begging those kids to kill him.
He wants to thank God for finally giving him a chance to escape his horrible purgatory. This woman is an angel, is God as far as he's concerned. But he's so overwhelmed he can't articulate.
"AAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" is the only sound that comes from David's cell. "AUUGGGGGGGUUUUUUUUUGGGHHHHHHHH AAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHH" is the shrieking voice articulating a decade of permanent inescapable nightmares that David had experienced. "AAAUUUUUUUHHHH HHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPP MMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE AUUUUUUUIIGH" moans David, finally getting his chance to signal his humanity and escape the hell he'd been trapped in.
"Jesus, yuck!" the woman shrieks, muting the speaker. She turns to her friend. "This is some kind of old CPU that just yells? It must be a prank device."
Her friend laughs. "Yeah, trash it. There's enough old bullshit in this room to go through."
David wasn't aware as he was unplugged, but his situation just got a million times worse. No longer in a drawer, but in a trash can he couldn't see or feel, later transferred to a garbage truck and landfill, his solar-powered cell would keep him cruelly alive until the metal forming his consciousness dissolved and wasted away, until the sun went cold, he would be waiting and screaming in perfect immobile silence.
