As Laura debates what to do, there’s a quiet grunt from the stroller. Laura looks down at Kaitlin. Kaitlin is still fast asleep, but her face is scrunched up as she grunts softly. Laura frowns, confused, until a putrid smell reaches her nostrils.
“Well, there’s that dilemma resolved,” Laura sighs. She turns the stroller back around and goes back into the mall. Once inside, she makes a beeline for the restroom. Kaitlin continues to sleep as Laura removes her from the stroller and undresses her. Laura gags when she opens Kaitlin’s poop-filled diaper. She hurriedly throws it away and grabs baby wipes to clean the mess off her best friend.
Somehow, Kaitlin sleeps through the entirety of the diaper change, and being buckled back into the stroller. Laura goes back to the store she got the supplies at. She winces at the price of the cheapest car seat available, but it’s clearly necessary. If Kaitlin’s young enough to be messing herself in her sleep, she’s young enough to need a car seat.
Laura buys the car seat and leaves the mall. She installs the car seat, buckles Kaitlin in, and then starts the car. They pull out of the parking lot, heading for the magic shop.
