Jenn was distraught, she has never made such a glaring mistake in cheerleading, this week was just getting to her; this was the icing on the cake of a crappy week.
She looked down at her exposed arms she could feel the dried sweat on them, it felt gross. She walked over to the sink and turned on the water she wanted to wash the grime off her body. As she mechanically went through the motions of washing her arms off in the sink not ready for a show just yet she looked in the mirror and caught sight of the mannequin, her eyes were fixed on it as she moved on to washing her face.
It was so casually pretty, and yet she never noticed it before tonight. She dried off her arms and face and then turned around to face the mannequin. It looked carelessly discarded in the pile of merchandise toppled over onto its side… her side; it was clearly shaped like a woman she didn’t want to be rude.
Biting her lower lip she sighed and walked over to it arms crossed. The white plastic was shiny but on closer inspection, it was duller than she was expecting. Hesitantly she reached towards the doll intending to set her upright when the door to the locker room opened.
Susan hobbled in before carefully leaning against the lockers.
She looked around before her eyes settled on Jennifer.
“What the hell was that Jenn?” Susan demanded and she tenderly rubbed her lower back.
“In all the years we have done cheerleading together never once did you drop me or anyone else. I am just grateful that you changed the routine last minute, I don’t want to think what would have happened to me if we did the routine we were going to do.” Susan continued as she began opening her locker.
“I don’t know… you probably missed the timing so I wasn’t ready to catch you at that time.” Jenn lied. She really didn’t know what was going on but she didn’t really want to tell Susan she didn’t catch her because of her disgusting flabby body and sopping wet skin.
“Bull shit!!” Susan yelled in the completely quiet locker room.
You looked up at me ready to go, I jumped, and you avoided me. This was a basic Jump Jenn! You should not have had any problem with it we have been doing this for years… for! Fucking! Years!” she yelled back.
“I should be fine on Monday but right now my back hurts so much. This was your fault, and I want to know why!? What happened out there!?”
“I couldn’t deal with how fat and disgusting you are! The entire team has turned into a pod of whales, and you are swimming in your own sweat out there. Everyone can see it. I looked up saw you flapping in the wind and how coated in sweat you were and missed it...Okay! Is that what you wanted me to say? I have had a hard week and this game was supposed to be the end of it. Now I feel awful that I hurt my best friend, I will be the laughing stock of the school, and I am thinking I will have to take a leave from the cheer team.” Jenn Yelled back before breaking down into tears and running out of the locker room.
She left her phone and bag in her locker but she didn’t care it wasn’t like she wanted to talk to anyone that would call or message her anyway. Halfway to her car, she stopped realizing her keys were in her purse; which she didn't have...
“Fuck it!” she yelled before she decided to walk home. She could use the air anyways, and it was only a 5-mile walk.
