The little girl gently clung to the ring as she thought about what to do next. She enjoyed herself quite a bit at the party, all that energy running through her as well as the ability to be free from any real worry. She’d felt a peace she hadn’t known in a while and it was nice. She looked up at Kimberly and smiled. “I had a lot of fun today, all things considered.”
She beamed a bright smile as a few tears began to well up. “I don’t necessarily want to change back yet, but I want to do something else too. Also, I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a toddler and am tired or if I’m just feeling the weight of my stress and anxiety being lifted away for the first time in years but…” she couldn’t say anything as she began to cry, trying to get words out that her little chest could not carry.
Kimberly instinctively got down on her knees and hugged the little girl, cradling her head and saying “it’ll be alright, Olly, let it out.” The two stayed like this for a while, Kimberly herself could tell she needed this too. School had been getting to her and she had been thinking about when she was a kid. Though she didn’t remember being as young as Olivia, she did remember being 5 and how little she worried about life. Now she had school, work, a future to worry about. She wasn’t far off from having to decide what she wanted to be in terms of a business professional, what she might do if the right person comes along or even if that person comes along. A world of possibility that was matched two to one with uncertainty. That chilled her to think about it, but in this moment she felt warmth, she felt as if her own life had been renewed, as though she was free. Although, this though did not last long as she heard a certain noise.
“Are you peeing?” Kimberly asked, still in embrace.
“Oh, dang, I am!” Olivia says, giggling a bit at the absurdity of the moment. “Well, it’s a good thing I packed as many diapers as I did. I’ve got one left.” Kimberly said as she pulled out the last wayward diaper from the pack she had bought. “I’m gonna need you to fill it all up first, though. It’d be a waste not too, that and you’ll probably wanna get to bed soon.” She said as she stood up, smiling down on the little girl. Olivia blushed, though her smile was still present as she began to squat down and grunt. She seemed to even ham it up a bit as she pushed herself, causing Kimberly to giggle a slight bit as Olivia finally managed to get it all out of her system. “Alright, I’m done here.”
Olivia said almost like she was saying she was getting out of here. Kimberly picked up the toddler and takes her to the bathroom where she begins to change Olivia for the last time.
