Several hours pass, and Mary calms down quite a bit... which is a MAJOR understatement. In fact, she's as blissfully unconcerned as Jess at this point. They've been fed several times and even bathed, which even though it was more or less getting blasted with a hose, still felt pretty good.
The unnamed military officer returns to their cell, looking angry as hell still and sits down on a stool, chewing viciously at a cigar that he's trying in vain to light.
Mary looks in his direction, an idle smile on her face, and grunts. She doesn't understand what the vein throbbing in his forehead indicates, or the gnashing of his teeth. She barely remembers him from before.
"Awright, ladies... now that both a' you are awake, maybe now I'll get some answers. We combed your entire damn house, top to bottom, couldn't find your stupid magic potions - so where the hell are they?"
Neither of them understand what he's saying, so they don't respond. Jess sniffs at the air a bit, grunting. She's hungry, and is waiting on another feeding time.
"You think this is funny? Think this is a game?!" He leans forward and slaps the bars of their cell hard, causing them to reverberate and echo through the halls. Mary and Jess squeal with surprise and fear, and retreat to the back of their cell.
"What the hell's going on here?!" The man barks at a nearby scientist. Mary and Jess don't know he's a scientist, they just know that he brings food sometimes. Sure, he pricks them with sharp things and shines lights in their eyes and ears... but he feeds them too. They like being fed.
"I don't know sir. A couple of hours ago, they were conversing freely... with each other, with us... then their vocab took a sudden and sharp drop, and then they stopped talking altogether."
"Dammit, this freakshow's gonna give me a friggin' ulcer." He stands up and leans against the wall after shoving the cigar in his breast-pocket, placing both palms squarely on the wall. "Another one," he adds. He has a very stressful job.
"What should we do with them then?" The scientist asks. "We've been working for hours trying to discern the source of their mutation and the reason for this sudden intellect drop..."
"Forget it. It's not worth spending taxpaying money figuring out how some dumb bitches turned themselves into pigs. God damn it all..." He sighs deeply and glances at Mary and Jess with utter contempt for ruining his day. They don't understand this, but cringe anyway. They're afraid he'll hit the bars again and make the loud painful sound. "Put 'em on some uninhabited island... maybe we can just sweep this whole damn magical vial shit under the rug and pretend it never happened."
