You and your roommate Ben had decided to go for a break at his cousins cabin for the long weekend. It wasn't large, but it did have two bedrooms meaning you wouldn't need to share a room, and a nice fireplace to keep you warm. While you had heard of the coming of this 'mythic wave,' you didn't put much thought into it. You weren't alive when the last one hit, and it hadn't affect Ben nor really anyone in this region. While the rest of the world turned back into a home of myth, your homeland remained steady in the human age.
You flicked though your phone, mindlessly scrolling over posts online. Ben was poking the firepit, sighing slightly as he did so. It had been a good day. You had gone for a morning jog out in the fresh air, then you and him had gone for a hike, discovered an awesome pond which you planed to swim in tomorrow morning, and ate a pretty decent dinner all things considered. You sighed, leaning back in your seat worn out.
"What do you think if the Mythic Wave hits us?" Said Ben abruptly.
"I'm not sure," you said, slightly dazed.
"Sorry if that was out of the blue. Just been thinking about it, is all. Like, would it hurt? To become something different and imbued with the essence of the Old Gods?" Ben had a concerning spark in his eye.
"I really don't know, dude," You replied.
Ben turned away, blushing. He then stabbed the fireplace with his poker.
"Sorry. It's just the anticipation for when it will hit. Like, this is the year the wave hits the world."
"I just try not to think about it. Our home has been lucky. We can just hope it'll stay that way."
You yawned loudly. Waving at Ben, you said goodnight and went off to your room. You were slightly embarrassed how quickly to tired to escape that conversation, but Ben seemed just a little to 'anticipating' for your liking. Still, this year is gonna have you all on edge. The wave could strike at any time - then it's only a question of what you'd become.
