Lucas Green was average in every way. At 21 years old, he stood at an average 5’8”, had an average short brown haircut, and an average build - not that muscular, but not overweight either. He was not particularly handsome, but by no means was he bad looking. For most people that knew him, there were only two things about him that stood out: He was openly gay and proud of it, regularly participating in things like pride parades and was vice president of the LGBT+ safe space on his campus. His love for anime was the other big thing that stood out, spending a lot of his time watching anime, creating cosplays, and collecting merch he wanted. Outside that, he was very normal. Very average. Boring, even.
He lived in the dorms with one roommate, Chris Gordon, who was also him his 3rd year of college. Chris was very different from Lucas, being taller and having a heavy build required of a linebacker for the schools’ football team. Chris was definitely part of the popular crowd at school, and most people were confused why Chris would keep living with Lucas instead of going to a room with one of his teammates. For Chris, it was simply a shared interest in anime that he was shy about sharing with his teammates, but at home with Lucas they could talk about their favorite shows and would often watch new episodes together.
Lucas, on the other hand, had a big crush on Chris. Not that he showed it at all. Chris was straight, and he didn’t want to ruin the friendship so he kept Chris’ secret about anime, and his own secret about his crush.
One morning, however, Lucas woke up to a strange sight. He opened his eyes and was greeted not with the stuffed anime character he kept on his bedside table, but he instead saw Chris’ face. He looked a little different, he looked a bit fuller in the face and a little less clean-shaven, but there was no mistaking his roommates’ face 8 inches away from his own. He sat up in bed quietly, to not wake Chris up, and looked around the room in confusion. Everything looked the same, mostly. All the anime posters were still up, Chris’ football gear was in the same place Chris left it the night before after cleaning it. The only difference, as far as he could tell, was that instead of having two twin beds in the room, there was just the one queen bed that he was sharing with his roommate.
Lucas quietly and gently swing his feet off the bed and stood up, and as he did he felt something akin to vertigo. “Was he always this height?” He thought to himself as he stumbled into the bathroom. He turned on the light and immediately looked in the mirror, seeing himself, or rather, this worlds’ version of him.
“Woah…” He said aloud.
