"Actually, she is!" Alice replied. "We can go talk to her if you want, but I really didn't expect you to be the type to want a job here! But I guess if you need the money..."
"Alice I was joking. Don't pretend like you thought I was serious."
"Well, I don't know Jakey. Promises of easy money make people do crazy things. And as I understand it you said, even if it was just for a split second, that you would be willing to be also become an inflatable cat-girl maid for a decent amount of cash." Alice was slathering on the sarcasm hard.
"No way in hell. Also, I never said that I would. And I doubt one of those things would even work on me." Jake paused to once again look over his friend's new getup. "And I still don't believe you. Things like that-" he said gesturing to Alice, "-are not possible."
"Only one way to find out!" Alice grinned as she pointed up to her artificial ears.
"You're not doing that." Jake replied bluntly.
"Hey I won't make you," Alice threw her hands up defensively and nonchalantly, "I'm just letting you know that if you tried it, it WOULD work, and you WOULD like it, AND if you talked to my boss she would probably let you get a job here... You'd be making as much money as I am."
Jake pondered that offer. He could try it. But then again he had no desire to have what happened to Alice happen to him. Then again the money certainly wouldn't hurt. He could talk to her boss. Just to ease his concerns about all this. And to be quite honest, Jake wasn't one hundred percent confident in taking Alice's word for truth. She claims to be some kind of inflatable maid. Such a thing was not possible. Jake was too curious about all that to just up and leave.
"Fine. We'll go talk to your boss." Alice jumped and clapped hearing his reply, "BUT. That doesn't mean I'm working here and that doesn't mean you're putting cat ears on me."
"Oh nooooo. We'll save the fun for later." Alice smirked.
The duo soon found themselves knocking on one of the few doors in the back of the cafe. Like the rest of the building, this back door seemed completely garish with its intricate woodwork of, what Jake assumed to be, mahogany. Alice grabbed ahold of the knocker in the middle of the door and with great effort pulled it back for a knock.
"Come in!" was all that was said from the other side of the door. The mystery voice was equally squeaky as Alice's. Soon after, the door automatically opened itself. Inside the room was a simple desk, a set of chairs, and a near identical cat-girl sitting down, penning something out on her desk. The stranger glanced up, "Oh, Red! I see you've brought a freind!"
"Red?" Jake asked his friend who payed him no mind.
"I did! I'm trying to convince him to pick up a position with us!" Alice emoted eerily similar to how a stereotypical anime girl would, but that was just normal Alice.
"Oh that would be wonderful! We are quite understaffed at the moment!" The other cat girl said standing up from her desk. Despite being Alice's boss, and perhaps even the owner of this establishment, she was dressed in an identical maid getup. The only noticeable difference was her skin tone; which was far more pale than Alice's golden tan, her hair; which was an unwieldy inflatable mass running down the entirety of her torso. Unlike Alice's bright red, hers was a dark purple. Lastly, her face was far sharper, giving the impression of a more sophisticated and authoritative figure, in spite of the fact that she too was an animated cat-girl. "What's your name hun?" She said putting out a hand to shake.
"Jake Campbell", replied Jake. He met the cat-girl's handshake with his own, only to find that her grip seemed... light. He wasn't allowed to dwell on that thought too long before further questioning from the purple haired stranger.
"My name is Chess and I run this establishment... you realize what this place is, yes?"
"Truly, no..." Jake responded before being interrupted by his friend.
"I told him everything, the pay, the conditions, the uniform." Alice said, "I don't think he believes me." She made a pouty glare at her male companion.
"Well, I can say that what you see is what you get here." Chess continued. "I can offer you a trial position, but truth is we do need the staff. And if you need the money, this isn't a bad fit." She changed her attention over to Alice. "Do you vouch for him?"
Alice darted eyes back and fourth between Jake and Chess before finally resting them on her employer, "Jake is one of my closest friends. I'm sure he's up for the task!" She said with an informal salute, an action that caused an unnatural amount of squeaking sounds.
"What do you say Jake? Looking to make some money today?" Chess asked as she pulled out yet another pair of inflatable cat ears from her desk.
"I..."
