It was not his first “Wave of Light” but it was almost certainly going to be his last. Sitting in a chair in the nursing home watching the news about the now yearly event was a very elderly old man. He was over 90s and had lived a long and good life in his view but even he knew his time was running short. His once strong muscles which helped him survive battle in the Korean War as a 19 year old private could no longer support him without pushing them to their limit. His once large frame from a hard life working at the steel mill had withered along with his muscles so that he was pencil thin.
“Mr. Thompson it is time for your medicine.” Said the nurse as she came in the large handful of medicine he had to take and a glass of water.
“Thanks.” Said Mr. Thompson as he took the pills in shaking hands before downing it and taking the glass. The nurse held the bottom of the glass to make sure he didn’t drop it, another insult to his pride but he swallowed the pills.
“Good, an aid will be here soon with your lunch.” said the Nurse and like that she was gone leaving him alone with his memories and the news report about the incoming wave of light. It passed over a local news reporter only a couple of miles down the road and for a moment nothing happened, then the news reporter hair color changed from a rich brown to a dark black. That was a sight to see because it was rare to see a change on camera but the change itself wasn’t uncommon one. With some pain the old man shrugged, odds where this wave like all the others he had been through would do nothing to him.
The light washed over him, little did he know that he was wrong, and he was in for a major change.
