Mike wakes up just as he’s being buckled into a highchair. He looks around, confused. When he fell asleep, he was in the car. But now, he appears to be in a restaurant.
“Aw, what an adorable little boy,” coos the young woman who must be their waitress. “Will you be needing a copy of the kids’ menu for him?”
“Yes, please,” Stacey says. The waitress leaves. Mike looks at Jim and Stacey for answers. “We didn’t realize you would be waking up so soon. We thought we had time to have a quick lunch first.”
“It’s okay,” Mike mumbles around his pacifier. The waitress comes back with drinks and menus. She coos at Mike again before going to her other tables.
“What do you want to eat?” Jim asks. Mike knows what he wants without even looking at the menu.
“Chicken fingers.”
“You got it.” The waitress returns. Jim and Stacey place their orders, as well as Mike’s. Their food is served quickly. Just as they’ve started eating, Stacey spots a friend she knows and leaves the table to talk to her.
“Women,” Mike says quietly to Jim. Jim snorts in amusement. He looks at Mike.
“You’ve got a messy face there, Mikey.” Jim wipes Mike’s face with a napkin. “There. That’s better.” Stacey returns with her friend in tow.
“Jim, this is my friend, Eliza,” Stacey says cheerfully. Mike looks at Stacey’s friend, dread in his stomach. He knows Eliza. Eliza is the woman he sees at the gym, whom he has an incredibly intense crush on. “Eliza, this is my boyfriend, Jim. And the little guy in the highchair is Jim’s nephew, Mikey.”
As Eliza turns her attention to Mike, Mike does the only thing he can think of to get out of his crush seeing him like this.
