Miro sat in his darkened room, the demise of Natalia a serious blow but one he could recover from. The vampire lord though was stunned that these wizards could take down one of the Five.
Natalia had given Miro a wealth of information on the children of the wizards. Their numbers, their strengths, everything that the vampire lord could hope for. Then the unthinkable happened. Natalia's mark had died. Gloria, in her investigating discovered Natalias nature. The fight between them had proven fatal to the elite vampire. The only positive Miro could take from this encounter was that Gloria did not know how entrenched Natalia had been. The vampires still had the element of surprise.
Still though Miro worried. The Five were a member short now. The team of vampires had operated as his elites for so long without interruption that he worried about adding a new member. Thankfully his son Wyatt had given him a perfect replacement.
"Romi," Miro called. Miros personal familiar now limped into his room, bowing before his master. "You summoned me my Lord?" A small smirk now spread across his face as he gazed at his loyal minion.
"Bring me Kyra."
Kyra now found herself standing before Miro. The vampire slightly nervous despite her standing with the vampire nation. Natalias death had come as a shock to all the vampires. Kyra had gotten to know the woman over the few months she had been by Wyatts side. It was during these times she tried to learn as much as possible. Trying to absorb her knowledge through careful study. Natalia was a master of espionage, a capable fighter, in the end Kyra believed Gloria had simply gotten lucky in disposing of the vampire.
Still, Miro was known for his short temper. Failure was not an option. Kyra had witnessed Miros wrath second hand and considering how high he held Natalia she now feared Miro would take his wrath out on her. "You wished to see me my Lord," she asked nervously.
Miro now slowly stood, advancing towards Kyra. The teen could see that the whites of Miros eyes were now blood red, contrasted only with a dark pupil that seemed to burn into Kyra's very being. "I've heard you studied under Natalia," he said, his voice low and foreboding. "Taken the time to learn as much from her as possible."
"Yes Lord Miro," she said quickly. "I mourn for Natalia. We all do, she was one of the most capable vampires I have come to know!"
Miro simply nodded, slowly circling the teenage girl as he studied her carefully. Kyra was on edge, she felt as if she was in the middle of the ocean being circled by a shark. She felt helpless, unable to act, waiting for the mighty predator to strike her down.
"After careful consideration Kyra I have decided that YOU shall replace Natalia as one of the Five."
"My Lord," Kyra replied nervously, stunned by Miro's response.
"You have shown great promise Kyra," Miro stated. "With Natalias passing I am in need of a skilled vampire to take her place."
"I...I don't know what to say," Kyra stammered. "Surely their are others more qualified?"
"There are none and this is not a request," he said. "You are the right candidate to join the Five. Your skill, your strength, all make you worthy of this honor."
"Thank you Lord Miro," Kyra said, bowing before him. "I shall not fail you."
Miro now approached Kyra, a sinister smile on his face. "Despite your youth you have proven yourself to be an exceptional vampire. In time you will become one of our strongest. For now though you shall undergo the ritual."
Miro now clapped his hands, Donovan and Hannibal now entering the room. "I have chosen Kyra to fill the ranks of the Five," he said. "Inform Selene of my decision and have her perform the Ritual of the Elite." Donovan and Hannibal nodded as Miro now once more turned to Kyra, the teenage girl still stunned by Miros proclamation.
"The ritual will make you stronger," he said. "Faster, an elite vampire with few rivals. Then you shall join the other members of the Five. We have much work to do still if our plans are to succeed."
Kyra nodded, thanking Miro as she was escorted from the room. As the Lord of vampires now sat down once more, he smiled. He would avenge Natalias death and strengthen the vampire nation if it was the last thing he ever did.
