Morgana smiled at Dani. "Your courage has made up my mind for me, young one. You shall become my apprentice."
"Oh my Goddess!" shouted Dani, tears of joy streaming down her caramel-colored cheeks. "Thanks!"
"You proved your worth when the prospect of becoming my familiar failed to frighten you off. Many lesser witchlings go running with their metaphorical tails between their legs at the faintest suggestion of that... lest those tails cease to be metaphorical."
"I don't know if it was courage," said Dani. "I honestly think I'd kind of enjoy being a cat."
Morgana laughed. "Are you saying you'd RATHER be a familiar?"
"Not really," said Dani. "Being a witch comes with too many interesting spells. If I want to be a cat, I'll just use my magic to shapeshift into one."
"A very sensible attitude," said Morgana.
Vivi clasped hands with Dani. "You're going to just LOVE being a witch, Dani! It's amazing just to have a witch for a mother, and now I'm actually learning how to use my own magic!"
"It'll be cool to learn how to use mine," said Dani.
"You'll need to unlock it first," said Morgana. "You're a LATENT witch, Daniela. Your capacity for magic comes from a recessive gene. For me to be able to teach you anything, even something as simple as levitating a pencil, we need to find a way to activate that gene."
"Don't worry," said Vivi. "There are ways to do just that; you aren't the first latent witch to awaken, just like plenty of beastborns become true werebeasts and lots of dhampirs graduate to vampirehood."
"How?" Dani asked.
"I'll show you, Ms. Romero-Marquez," Morgana answered. "Just follow me this way, and you'll see."
