In truth, Arianna was shrieking in horror and disbelief. However, in reality, Arianna was squeaking. A normal person might stop to think about what landed her in this situation, but Arianna had never been forced to consider her circumstances ever before in her life. Therefore, Arianna did what came naturally...she panicked.
Usually, should a pampered princess begin screaming, a horde of maids would descend upon the room to correct whatever may have gone wrong, followed by knights to execute whomever reduced the princess to such a state. But when a pampered princess turned mouse began screaming, the only creature Arianna attracted was what one might expect -- a cat.
Which only caused Arianna to squeak even more madly, considering the enormous black cat which strolled across her bedroom floor, its slitted green eyes focused intently on her.
"Get away from me, you filthy creature! I will have you skinned and quartered for entering the royal bedchamber! Keep your distance, vile spawn!" Arianna screeched in fear and horror, or she would have, could she still speak. The cat, undeterred, calmly leaped up on the large bed and stalked over to where Arianna flailed about, too overcome to realize she probably could have fled, considering her current size and the numerous nooks and crannies in the bedroom. Instead, Arianna screamed at the top of her lungs as the huge maw descended upon her...
And picked her up gently by the scruff of her neck, while she continued to squeak in terror. Ignoring its prey's protests, the nonplussed black cat trotted to the window, pushed it open with a paw, leaped to the nearby tree, and went scurrying off. Arianna hung limply from her captors mouth, her throat raw from squeaking. She almost wished she could faint in order to find some relief from the situation, but the swaying motion kept drawing her back to consciousness.
Finally, after what seemed an endless trek, the cat slid through a narrow opening on the side of an old stone house covered in ivy located in the middle of nowhere. Seemingly reaching its destination, the cat leaped up on a table and dropped Arianna into a glass beaker sitting there, then sat down and began grooming its paw.
Arianna came to her senses at the drop, but was too traumatized to move. Nevertheless, through the distorted glass she managed to see a dimly-lit workroom room filled with bookcases and various tools, none of which a spoiled princess could recognize. However, she did manage to grasp one coherent thought: the cat had not eaten her...yet. Maybe she would survive this. And when she got back to the palace she would have every cat in the kingdom destroyed, she weakly nodded to herself.
Just then, the heavy wooden door to the chamber creaked open.
