"That wall of light is terrifying," says Brayden, tall and thin.
"Yeah," replies Callum, comparatively short and chubby, "Especially now since it can turn people into anything."
"And money doesn't mean shit to it. It transformed that rich guy into a pig."
"What a horrible thing to be turned into."
Brayden nods his head in agreement, "But anyway. It's never happened at this school, so the odds are low."
"Yeah," sighs Callum, "Guess it's good population control," he laughs.
Callum and Brayden walk into class. Their hearts racing at the imminent arrival of the wall. Low odds are still terrifying, particularly when you can lose your very humanity.
Class starts and the teacher (Mr Jackson) says, "The odds are practically nonexistent. But just in case that light wall transforms one of you. I need you to find a buddy." Callum and Brayden buddy up together without issue.
"Uh," says a guy named Zach, "I don't have a buddy." The teacher looks around the classroom and says, "You can buddy up with Mitchell and Luke." Zach smiles and walks over to them.
Class starts and the nervousness is obvious: Everyone is twitchy and on edge. "How about we watch a movie instead," says Mr Jackson aware that teaching anything would be futile. He starts the movie and the class watch it, sometimes even forgetting the imminent arrival.
Halfway through the movie. The wall of light arrives. Callum and Brayden close their eyes, as do most of the class. Their hearts feel like they're going to explode as the white light passes over their bodies.
