Another year passed, and once again I didn't experience a single change from the wave. This was normal, since most people didn't experience any change. However, the same could not be said about my roommate, Sam.
We were both 22 years old, and have been roommates since we were 18, entering college. We both graduated college shortly before the wave struck us again, but we continued to be roommates since our jobs were so close together.
We were both originally male, but Sam turned into a girl two years ago. Last year, his ethnicity changed from white, to East Asian. These changes had a huge impact on her, making her feel like she was in the wrong body. She grew bitter towards anyone who didn't experience a single change from the wave. While she still tried to be nice towards me, I could tell that she resented the fact that I never changed.
After I checked myself to make sure a change didn't happen this year, I heard a scream coming from Sam's room. "Great, she got changed again. What is it this time?" I muttered to myself.
I walked over to her room and knocked on her door. "Hey, are you alright?" I asked.
I initially heard no response. This worried me, so I knocked on the door again. "Hey, I just want to make sure you are ok," I said.
I then heard laughing. The door began to open on its own. As I looked into the room, I was shocked at what I saw. Sam was floating in the air above her bed.
"The wave gave me magic, Jack! It turned me into a witch! A very powerful one! And it taught me a lot of spells! Finally, a good change! I am so excited!" Sam shouted, smiling.
So that scream from earlier was just a scream of excitement this time. I sighed in relief, but then became worried. If Sam became a witch, what is she going to do with that magic?
